Performing with the sweet, sassy and insanely wonderful Ally is like one gigantic obstacle course of challenges for my libido. And my libido is one sexy love song away from kissing her senseless and taking her home.

But, I’m not a serious kind of guy, and she’s not a one-night-stand kind of woman. If we cross the horizontal line, we might risk our sure thing and end up out of tune forever...

My Review:

Lately Lauren Blakely has become one of my go-to romance author, she knows how to deliver a great story and Once Upon a Sure Thing did not disappoint at all. This friends-to-lovers story is swoon worthy from beginning to end.

Ever since they met six years ago, Ally has been Miller’s best friend and closest ally. They have been through so much together in their personal lives that they know to rely on each other no matter what. But if there is one thing that Miller wants the most at the moment is to sing in front of an audience again. After being part of the Heartbreakers, the band that he was in with his two brothers, Miller yearns to sing again ever since the group separated. His two brothers have their own lives and he decides to do things differently. That’s when the idea of finding a woman to sing with him sparks and he starts to receive audition tapes from a lot of interested women. But there is one that speaks to him and knows right away that he has to meet her soon. Little did he know that his life was about to change forever.

Ally Zimmerman has narrated all sorts of young adult novels, but her dream is to get out of the genre and try a bit of romance instead. But the opportunity hasn’t presented herself and she needs another way to get a more of money in order to take care for her niece, Chloe. When Miller tells her about riding a woman to sing with him she is instantly jealous. She wants to be the one singing with him and she decides to do something radical. She is going to send her own audition tape and create a whole new persona for herself in hopes of getting Miller to notice her. But she is shocked when Miller asks her to meet him, now she has to face him and hope that everything goes according to plan. Yet their chemistry is magnetic and neither of them expected to be so good together. Now she has to figure out a way to make things work without hurting each other in the end.

I really enjoyed reading this story, it was sweet and charming. Miller is not only talented, but he is also a good friend to Ally. He understands her and knows that she needs the gig in order to get more money. But it’s tough to be a bandmate and maintain their friendship intact. But when their relationship crosses the line, he’ll have to convince her that they can truly work out before it’s too late. On the other hand, Ally is caring and a talented singer. At the beginning Miller doesn’t truly see her talent until she sends her audition tape. She cares for him so much, but when they start to spend more time together things start to heat up and she doesn’t know what to do. She doesn’t want to lose her friend, but there are still things that they have to work on in order to truly be together. The beginning started a bit differently for me, it was a bit slow but it picked up really fast. It was nice seeing Ally’s relationship with Miller’s family and vise versa. It’s evident how much they value each other as friends, but as they start something new together, they start to realize just how much in love they might be with each other. All in all, the story was swoon worthy and definitely worth picking up. I personally loved the ending, it really tied everything together really well. I cannot wait to read what happens in the next book! :)

My Rating:

{EXCERPT}

~Ally~

Miller holds open the hobby shop door for me. “After you, my warrior princess. I believe we have a castle to create.”

“Chloe left me a list of items to pick up, since she’s seeing her therapist.”

“Never miss a shrink visit, I say.” Miller stops in front of a remote-controlled helicopter display. “How are they going for her, anyway?”

“Good. She’s almost done with the appointments. She’s doing so well now, but it took a while,” I say, smiling as we go inside, proud of my girl.

“I’m glad she’s doing better. It’s all because of you.”

I wave off the compliment as we head down the aisles. Pom-poms and fabrics abound, nestled alongside scrapbook boxes and glitter glue, which cuddles with glitter guns and ribbons. I stop at an aisle bursting with silver ribbons, polka-dot ribbons, and ribbons with tassels. I scratch my head. “I don’t understand why there are so many ribbons.”

Miller leans in close and whispers, “The better to tie you up with, my pretty.”

A tingle spreads over my shoulders, surprising me, even thought I’m not surprised by his words. He’s a natural-born flirt, and I’m used to his naughty banter. It’s never directed toward me, per se. He’s just having fun. It’s Miller being Miller, like when we play Bananagrams and he tries to make as many naughty-sounding words as possible, like caulk and diphthong. “In that case, let’s make it a polka-dot ribbon. I can wear it with my famous polo shirts and ponytails,” I say, referring to the super-sweet style I wore when I sang online with my brother.

“Ooh, that makes it even naughtier, and it proves my point.”

“What’s that?”

He holds up a finger. “I have a hunch craft stores are frequented by the Fifty Shades crowd.”

I laugh. “DIY BDSM-ers?”

He wiggles his eyebrows. “Ribbons are for typing pretty wrists.” He circles his hand around my wrist, sending another unexpected charge through me. I do my best to ignore the sensation. He lets go quickly and leads me to an aisle of wooden frames, birdhouses, and, oddly enough, paddles. “Those paddles are not for school projects, I tell you.”

“Whatever are they for?” I ask, feigning innocence.

Miller mimes spanking my butt. Next, he gestures to the candle-making section. “Exhibit B that hobby shops are fronts for kinky sex clubs—just imagine all this wax dripping on bellies and butts tonight.”

“How on earth am I supposed to work on a project with Chloe now that you’ve put these thoughts in my head?”

He runs a hand lightly over my hair and says in his raspy baritone, “I suspect those thoughts were already there.”

Were they? Are they? Images scroll through my mind, mostly involving ribbons.

🌟BOOK BLITZ:🌟 Blessed Fury by C.S. Wilde {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

Blessed Fury by C.S. Wilde

Release Date: September 3rd 2018 by C.S. Wilde
Pages: 332
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

Once you face the devils, there’s no going back.

Guardian angel Ava Lightway has spent a century watching over her charges, whispering the words of the gods in their ears. But her peaceful existence ends when she’s assigned to Liam Striker, a supernatural detective with no memory of his past.

Liam might be Ava’s biggest challenge yet. Stubborn and dangerously captivating, he’ll stop at nothing to find the demon who murdered his father. Even if it costs him his life.

Keeping death away from her new partner is an impossible task. And even if their investigation doesn’t destroy Ava, succumbing to Liam’s smoldering touch just may.

Purchase: Amazon

{EXCERPT}

The stench of stale beer and sweat invaded Ava’s nostrils as she moved toward the bar. A football game played on the screen behind the counter, but none of the three men populating the pub paid any attention to it.

The air inside was musty, old, and it only worsened as she approached the end of the room.

She passed by the first man, who sat in a booth on the left. He stared at nothing in particular, with a cry stuck midway in his throat and a half-empty jug of beer clutched in his hand. The bad lighting drenched half of him in shadows, making it seem like darkness was swallowing him.

He didn’t notice Ava because she had masked her presence before entering. She wasn’t exactly invisible. Humans could see her if they focused hard enough, but they rarely did.

Ava made a mental note to check up on that poor soul if she had the chance, her Guardian instincts urging her to help. He was clearly suffering, but she was here for a reason, and the reason was not that man. So she went back to the task at hand.

The wooden floor creaked as she approached the bar. The bartender, an old man with white hair and a face marred by deep wrinkles, cleaned a dirty glass from behind the counter.

She wasn’t here for him, either.

The last man sat hunched at the edge of the counter. Well, he wasn’t exactly a man. According to his file, he was a Selfless, an angel whose memories had been wiped out so he could be reborn as a human—standard procedure, considering centuries of memories could overload a human brain.

She stopped by his side and sat on the red padded stool to his left. The seat’s ripped leather grazed the white fabric of her bodysuit, scratching her thighs.

The man was hunched over, so she couldn’t see much of him except for his strong build and dark hair. He took a long gulp of his drink and didn’t acknowledge her presence for a while.

So she waited.

“Archie isn’t dead yet,” he finally said, his voice rough like a cement wall.

“I do belie—”

“He’s not dead,” the man repeated, his attention solely on what was left of his whiskey.

She took a deep breath. “I know, Liam.” She used her Guardian voice, the calm, soothing tone to which she had grown accustomed. It was how she talked to her charges, how every guardian angel spoke, actually. Using the same serene tone.

Liam turned to Ava, his brow furrowed and his lips twisted, and for a moment too quick to count, she lost her breath. Ava had seen his photo on file, but the live version of him was brutally handsome. Liam was a cool wind on a summer morning and a thunder waiting to crack. His features were all sharp angles and fierce lines, but his eyes … Ava had never seen eyes like those. Rough emeralds cut with razor-sharp precision, almost like crystalline water, if water were green.

“Don’t call me by my name,” he spoke through gritted teeth. “You don’t know me.”

“You’re right, and I apologize.” She patted her thighs as if she were fixing the apron of an invisible dress. “I only read your file, but I’d like to get to know you, Liam.”

“You’re a Guardian,” he scoffed and took a sip of his drink.

“I am,” she said, ignoring the contempt in his tone. “However, the word the Messenger used when he assigned you as my charge was ‘temporary partner’.”

“You’re not my partner,” he barked through tight lips. “Archie is.”

“I’m not here to replace Archibald, Liam.”

He glared at her, certainly because she had used Archibald’s name and his. This seemed to be a sensitive matter to her new charge, so she calmly added, “I can't replace your partner. No one can.” Ava extended her hand to him. “I’m Ava, by the way. And I’m here to help.”

AUTHOR BIO:

C.S. Wilde wrote her first Fantasy novel when she was eight. That book was absolutely terrible, but her mother told her it was awesome, so she kept writing.
Now a grown-up (though many will beg to differ), C. S. Wilde writes about fantastic worlds, love stories larger than life and epic battles.
She also, quite obviously, sucks at writing an author bio. She finds it awkward that she must write this in the third person, and hopes you won't notice.

Release Date: September 17th 2018 by RH Tucker
Series: Rumor Has It #4
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Second chances are for suckers.

Micah’s heard that expression before. With his first year of college in the books, catching his girlfriend cheating on him—again—he learns that lesson firsthand. The girl he thought could’ve been his high school sweetheart, turns out to be nothing more than a liar, completely destroying his trust.

No one has ever called Veronica fat. Thick? Okay. Curvy? Sure. However, they’ve never come right out and told her she’s overweight. Not unless you count the kids in third grade who called her roly-poly. Grade school or freshman year of college, it doesn’t matter. Guys usually go for the tall, thin girls. Girls like Micah’s ex.

Despite their hang-ups, and their pasts, Micah and Veronica find something in each other that quells their concerns. But when old faces return, and unsettling truths are revealed, will either of them be able to work through the layers and find one another again?

Through the Layers is part of the Rumor Has It series and can be read as a standalone novel.

Series Note: Starting with Book 4, the Rumor Has It series deals with mature themes and situations.

{EXCERPT}

I knock again and pull out my phone. Maybe I should call him.

The door swings open and Micah stands there, dripping wet, holding a towel around his waist. “Hey, you’re early.”

“I … I …” I’m trying to form words, but my brain has gone to pudding. I can feel it, all squishy, sloshing around inside of my skull. He opens the door wider to let me in, but I just stand there, admiring—gawking—at the water dripping down his chest. The beads of water trail over his muscles, down his stomach, to somewhere underneath the towel.

“You gonna stay out there all night?”

My eyes shoot back up, and he’s smiling. “Would you like to come inside or did you want to get to business out there?” My mouth drops, and he laughs.

Finally realizing he’s teasing me, I find some kind of strength to not stare at him, and go inside.

“Just give me a second to dry off.”

I stop and stand behind the sofa. Usually, I’d feel comfortable enough to go to the kitchen and grab something to drink, or just lounge around on their couch, or even head straight into his bedroom and turn on the TV and start to watch something. Now, I’m stuck.

What should I do? Does he expect me to do something or say something? Should we have something to drink first? I know they usually have some alcohol in the apartment, maybe he wants to relax first. Should I change already? Why is it they make it look so much easier in the movies and on TV when it comes to this sort of stuff?

“What are you doing?” Micah asks, coming back out of the bathroom. He’s got on a pair of shorts and a shirt that fits him snuggly, but I can’t erase—nor do I want to—the mental image of him opening the door in nothing but a towel.

“Um …” I look around, unsure how to answer.

He gives me a hug and kisses the top of my head, before walking to the kitchen. “Happy birthday. I ordered a pizza. I would’ve gone all out, but you said you just wanted a chill night. Is that okay?”

“Mm-hm.” I nod.

Turning around, he stares at me still standing there. “Are you okay?”

Get it together, V. This was your idea!

🌟COVER REVEAL!🌟 Violet Ugly by J. Lynn Bailey {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

🔖COVER REVEAL!🔖

Violet Ugly by J. Lynn Bailey

Release Date: October 23, 2018
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Sixteen years ago, Merit Young left Granite Harbor, Maine, for California in search of a future that didn’t involve Ryan Taylor. He’d left her in pieces on her bedroom floor, delivering a blow she couldn’t have expected. But, now, at the request of her brother, Eli, she must return and confront the demons of her past—Ryan included. After the loss they both suffered, she isn’t prepared to face him—especially considering he’s the only one who’s always been able to see right through her.

Ryan has lived his entire adult life in survival mode. Growing up with an abusive father has taught him to keep women at arm’s length, and that’s never been a problem. Until Merit—the only woman he’s ever loved—strides through his front door. He’s not sure how long she’s staying, but he knows it’ll be long enough to destroy what’s left of his heart.

To overcome their dark past, they’ll have to shed light on a reality that will most likely tear them apart. Merit has been hiding a heartbreaking decision from Ryan, and he’s been keeping lies of his own.

Can two tortured souls heal after a lifetime of pain? Or will the hideous secrets of the past bury them both?

{EXCERPT}

It’s always easier, staring at Ryan Taylor from afar. His stormy, dark eyes give a warning to strangers: stay away. Tall at ten years old, Ryan pretends that his alcoholic father doesn’t bother him. But he does. I see it in his navy-blue eyes when his dad returns from sea.

It’s summer. The heat from the sun on my face makes me feel warm, almost happy. I watch as Ryan stalks toward me, quietly, as I lie in the middle of the mustard field. The scent of sea in my nose. I pray this pain goes away—the pain in my heart from the riptide that has torn through the Young family this morning. We knew it was coming. I should maybe feel relief that my mother is no longer in pain, but I want to retreat back to before she had cancer. When there wasn’t a cluster of pills on the counter. When it didn’t smell like a hospital on 4578 Opal Street at the top of the hill with the view of the ocean.

“Hey,” he says, breathless.

“You been running?” I peer up at him through squinty eyes.

“Yeah. From my house. When I heard the news.” Ryan sits down next to me and then lies down, placing his hands behind his head, peering up at the same summer sky.

“You okay?” I hear him whisper.
I don’t know.
I feel sick, and numb, too, I guess.
“What are you supposed to feel when your parent dies, Ryan?” The birds chirp.

Crickets sing.
I wait. Praying that his answer will deliver some peace.
Life is going on at a pace I wasn’t prepared for. Moving

forward. It has picked up and left my mother in the past. And I’m paralyzed.

“I don’t know.” He’s quiet for a moment. “I guess it’s supposed to feel like how ugly looks maybe.”

I laugh because I picture Ryan as ugly, and I just can’t with his skin that looks like the color of caramel, eyes the color of the Atlantic, short dark brown hair, and a long, lean body that is always ready, willing, and able.

I want to tell him I’m sorry his mother left. Before Ryan could walk, his father had just come home from a two-week sea trip, and his mother bent down, kissed him good-bye, and never came back. According to Ryan.

I suppose he knows what ugly feels like. I suppose he knows what it’s like to have his life turned upside down, twisted, knotted, nasty.

“People are shitty,” I say.
“Yeah. People are shitty.”
We both stare up at the bright blue sky and look for our

mothers. We see the sadness, life’s imperfections as the clouds float by. We take heed in the fact that life would just be easier if we didn’t get so attached, if we didn’t become loved, if we didn’t give love. Because, in the end, this ache in our hearts wouldn’t hurt so bad.

I feel Ryan’s eyes on me, but I continue to stare at the deformed elephant that drifts past me.

“One day, this all won’t hurt so much, Violet,” he whispers. And, when he calls me this, the stinging of my eyes begins.

He rasped, “You going somewhere, Sin?”

There was no smile. When he crossed his muscular arms, my eyes traveled up his tall, well-built body that was pure rippling muscle. Hardened abs trailed downward to the waist of his black designer-looking jeans.

Damn, no man should look this fucking good all the time.

And why the hell wasn’t he wearing a damn shirt? His body, from chest to wrist, was a beautiful composition of Japanese tattoos and other beast-themed ink.

“Yep,” I replied. “I’ve got shit to do.”

He arched a brow. “Like?”

“Like it’s none of your business,” I replied while slowly plodding toward him, stepping into his massive kitchen. We stood face-to-face as I leaned my hip against the granite kitchen counter.

He scowled. “That’s where you’re wrong. Everything about you is my business.” He was studying me too closely, his expression brooding.
