🔖 REVIEW 🔖 Van by Melanie Moreland

Van by Melanie Moreland

Release Date: March 25th 2019 by Moreland Books Inc
Pages: 289
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Vince Morrison, known to most people as Van.

Good with his hands, be it crafting a piece of wood, playing his guitar, or pleasing a lover—he excels at them all.

Friendly, flirty, and talented, he’s cool under pressure, and hot everywhere else.

But he keeps his heart closed, even as his interest and emotions are tested.

Olivia Rourke works alongside him at BAM.

Talented, private, and intriguing, she touches something inside him he can’t deny.

He wants to know her. In every possible way.

He wants her to know him.

Her past tells her to stay clear. Van is everything that she wants, and exactly what she cannot have. She has someone else to think of who is more important.

Can either of them risk their hearts?

My Review:

Van is by far the best book in the entire Vested Interest series, Moreland has outdone herself with such heartwarming and emotional romance that won’t disappoint at all.

In the book we are introduced to Van Morrison who works for BAM, a highly successful development company founded by Bentley, Aiden and Maddox. They have truly created a company that is innovated, but also one that treats its employees well. Van oversees a lot of the projects for the company, but when he is not busy at work he loves working with wood. He is constantly working on the next project along with Olivia Rourke, the head of the design team at BAM. They’ve worked together for a year now, their teams work side-by-side and he has developed feelings for her when she is clearly off-limits to him. Not only is she seven years younger than him, but a single mom who wants a forever that he cannot give. He tried it once and failed. Van will not let his guard down and get hurt again. But when Olivia needs him the most, he vows to protect her without realizing just how much his life was about to change forever.

Olivia Rourke loves her job at BAM, it’s challenging at times but she enjoys what she does. That also means that she gets to work with Van all the time and she has secretly developed a crush on him that she can’t deny. Olivia loves how sweet he is with Sammy, but she knows better than to have a relationship that might not end up working out. Van never signed up to be in a relationship with a single mom and she can’t give him that responsibility. She has been hurt in the past, but when she finds out more about Van’s past, she realizes that he might just be it for her. It would take a turn of events to truly test their love for one another and see if they can actually have a future together.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Van, it was really sweet and romantic from beginning to end! Van will steal your heart and leave you swooning for the characters. It’s evident from the start that they both have pasts to overcome, but being together is what makes them stronger. Van’s relationship with Sammy was everything! He is a gentle giant to her which I loved. The cameos that other main characters from previous books make really tied well with the series. The ending is unforgettable, have your tissues ready because it’s going to get really emotional! I would highly recommend checking out this book as well as the entire series, it’s romantic, steamy and full of swoon worthy moments. You will not regret it.

Death smells of macaroons.

Amelie was slumped over the kitchen table, face in a plate of meringues. Spearmint-green flakes stuck to her left cheek. Her glazed irises remained fixed upon a vase of spiky dahlias, cut and arranged by Grace that very morning. Every tangerine petal was bug and blemish free; my sister was well known locally for her green fingers.

My body sagged and my A level folders fell onto the floor.

‘About time, considering this is all your fault,’ said Grace, appearing from the pantry in a veil of chlorinated steam. She threw a ball of latex at me.

This was really happening.

I peeled on the gloves, unable to stop gawping at Amelie’s violet lips.

‘Would you believe it?’ continued Grace. ‘I ran out of black sacks. Had to nip out and get some more.’ She took a step closer towards me and lowered her voice to a whisper. ‘Where have you been?’

I reached into my tunic pocket for my phone. Grace cocked her head on one side so that her marmalade curls parted, revealing a tiny sliver of snowy hair against her scalp. She narrowed her eyes for a second then flapped her hands about her temples. ‘Never mind. You’re here now.’ She leaned forward and pecked the top of my forehead. ‘We’ve got lots to be getting on with. You can start by bagging her up. The packing tape is in the top drawer of the dresser.’

Grace wafted out of the room, her strappy sandals clicking across the hallway.

For some reason Amelie wasn’t wearing any shoes.

After I finished, I stared down at my handiwork; a black shiny parcel criss-crossed with brown tape. Grace stood there, leaning on the mop, her toe tapping to some hidden melody within her mind.

‘We’ll put her in the utility room for the mo.’ It was as though she was talking about an old hat-stand that was going to the charity shop.

It was the morning and Cassie couldn’t find her mermaid doll. Despite it being there last night, Myrtle had vanished from her bed. From the sound she was making, you would have thought her world was coming to an end.

Gil’s blonde hair was ruffled and there was a soft glow at the tips of his hollow cheekbones. He was simultaneously begging the girl to eat toast and marmite soldiers whilst tying her soft hair into a French plait.

Gil closed his eyes and took a deep breath in through his nose. ‘Em, would you be a sweetheart and have another scout around to see if you can find it? I’m never going to get her to school at this rate.’

I sipped my coffee. I had sacrificed my spoonful of cream and sugar to show Gil how cosmopolitan I was, but without them, the drink tasted of liquid charcoal and was making my empty stomach recoil. Gil opened his eyes wide, his soft mouth downturned at the sides. He was beautiful even when pushed to the edge of his patience. Cassie batted another piece of toast onto the floor. ‘Pretty please.’

I got to my feet and stretched, my spine giving a satisfactory click. ‘Cassie – you know what?’

The little girl immediately stopped her wailing and looked at me. Direct conversation with me was unusual; a novelty worth quietening down for.

‘Do you know what day it is today?’ I asked.

Cassie hiccupped and sniffed in rapid succession. Her big eyes were bright, her dark lashes glistening with tears. Cassie gave a small shake of her head. Behind her, I saw the tip of Gil’s tongue poking out whilst his brow furrowed as he ducked down to wrestle with the hair at the nape of her neck.

I folded my arms. ‘It’s a full moon tonight and, if you don’t shut up and do what Gil tells you to, the real Myrtle will hear about it.’ I tapped my foot against the polished oak floor. Cassie’s full lips were parted. ‘And,’ I continued, ‘if she does, she will be sure to stay on the bottom of the lake to avoid having to listen to your horrid caterwauling. Mermaids hate loud noises.’

AUTHOR BIO:

Charlie signed with Darkstroke Books in May 2020 and The Cry of the Lake is her debut novel.
Charlie lives in the UK and is very much a morning person. In fact, she likes nothing more than committing a fictional murder before her first coffee of the day. She is currently working on her next novel 'The Curse of the Emerald Cross'. Two dead bodies are found down a priest hole within the grounds of Collyhurst Abbey; a sixth-form boarding school for girls run by nuns. But what are they doing there? DS Ruby Simmonds is sent in, undercover, to investigate. 🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 A Wright Christmas by K.A. Linde

A Wright Christmas by K.A. Linde

Release Date: November 17th 2020 by K.A. Linde Inc.
Genres: Romance, Contemporary, Holiday

A new second chance single dad stand alone romance set in the world of the Wrights from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

At seventeen, I left Isaac Donoghue behind to become a professional ballerina.

When I return home to dance in the Nutcracker, I never expect to run into him. Let alone on my first day in town. I can’t help but admire him in a crisp suit with his toned soccer body, chiseled jawline, and all too familiar piercing green eyes. I thought nothing could surprise me more.

Until his five year old daughter runs out of the ballet studio.

I’m only in town for a month. I shouldn’t get involved with anyone, especially the ex I’ve been pining after for years. Especially now that he’s a single dad with a daughter to consider.

But where Isaac is concerned, I’ve never been able to stay away.

With the help of some Christmas magic, maybe we finally have a shot at our second chance.

My Review:

A Wright Christmas by K.A. Linde is a second chance romance perfect for the holiday season.

It’s been sixteen years since Peyton Medina got into the summer intensive in New York and left her home behind. Having achieved her dream of becoming Principal Dancer in New York, she gets invited back to her hometown to perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy for the whole month. But her family wasn’t all that she left behind all those years ago, she also left her first love as well.

Issac Donoghue became her everything, but when it was clear that she needed to leave the city to follow her dreams, he encouraged her to go without a second thought. Although it pained her to leave, she never stopped thinking about him and of what would it be like to see him again. Little did she know that meeting him again would change her life forever. Now she is back for a month and to her surprise he wants to make things work, but she can’t just leave her career behind. It has taken her years to achieve her dream and Peyton will have to decide if pursuing a relationship with Issac is worth it or not.

Issac Donoghue had so many goals and aspirations, that he couldn’t stand in the way of Peyton’s success. They both wanted to achieve something greater in their lives, but he never thought that he would end up being a single dad. Aly has become his new world now and no matter how long time has passed he still thinks about Peyton all the time. When his daughter is set to be in the Nutcracker, he is shocked to see Peyton again. Old feelings start to emerge and the more time they spend together, the more he wants to keep her for good. He’ll have to do everything in his power to make her see that they can have a shot at forever before it’s too late.

I very much enjoyed reading A Wright Christmas, it was sweet, festive and swoon worthy! I loved the chemistry between the characters, it’s evident that they still care about each other and they still have feelings for one another. But time has changed their lives and now they have to find a way back to each other again. It’s going to take a Christmas miracle for them to have their happily-ever-after. It was nice to see other members of the Wright family in the book as well as Katherine Van Pelt and Camden Percy from The Breaking Season. They all just made the story that much more sweet and fun to read. It will definitely put you in the a holiday spirit. I would highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for the perfect holiday read. I cannot wait to read what K.A. Linde comes up with next! :)

🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 Mafia Casanova by Rachel Van Dyken and M. Robinson

Mafia Casanova by Rachel Van Dyken and M. Robinson

Release Date: November 17, 2020
Genres: Romance, Contemporary, Mafia

From Bestselling Authors M. Robinson & Rachel Van Dyken comes a full length, standalone romantic suspense novel.

Trust.
Loyalty.
Family.
The tangled web of mafia life.
We grew up together. Me, Eden, my brother Tristian.
He was always the safe bet, the sure thing, the good guy.
And me? Well, I was the Casanova, the killer who flirted with anyone and anything, breaking Eden’s heart again and again.

We both loved her.
Mind.
Body.
Soul.
Until I gifted her to my brother as if she meant nothing, when she meant everything to me.
Tristian was safer.
Better.
Could give her the life I never would be able to.

But things changed.
We changed.

My only goal was to protect her, making her hate me in return. Except once my brother wasn’t standing between us anymore, I decided…

It was my turn to claim what had always been MINE to begin with.

My Review:

I’ve read and loved books by the authors separately, but this collaboration was truly explosive. Rachel Van Dyken and M. Robinson delivered a mind blowing mafia romance that will grip you and never let go.

In Mafia Casanova we get to meet, Romeo Sinacore, he is the family’s personal assassin and viewed to be cold hearted. He has a lot of blood on his hands, but he is good at what he does, getting the information that he needs while protecting his family. But if there is anything Romeo doesn’t do is relationships, happily-ever-afters. He only pleasures women without getting attached. But underneath the persona he portrays, Romeo has always had feelings for only one woman, Eden De Rossi. From the minute he saw her, she became his whole world and he has since then done everything he can possibly do to keep her at arms length. Although she is aware of his job, Romeo thinks that her soul is not tainted like his and that she deserves better. Little did he know that by keeping her away, he would set path of no return. It would take a turn of events to change their lives forever. Now he has to find a way to truly fight for the love of his life before it’s too late.

Eden De Rossi is no stranger to the mafia life, she grew up with the Sinacore brothers, Tristan and Romeo. She learned how to fight like them and knows that it’s because of that, that her life will always be a target to the enemies. She never expected to fall in love with Romeo, to care for him so deeply that seeing him with other women hurt her the most. Yet, Eden knows that deep down he cares about her enough to let her go. It would take a roller coaster of events to change the course of their lives, her only hope is that they get a second chance once and for all.

I absolutely loved this mafia romance! It had me hooked from beginning to end. It’s been a while since I’ve read any mafia books at all, but the authors did a great job giving us some background story as well as great character development. Eden and Romeo’s chemistry is off the charts right away. They tease and banter all the time, giving us a sense of how close they are to each other. But in the Italian mafia, family is everything as well as loyalty and trust. Eden would learn what’s really like to be involved with such a dangerous family and what they would do to their own if loyalty is broken. The amount of twists and turns in the story had me at the edge of my seat, definitely didn’t see them coming at all. The ending is what got to me, it was sweet and everything I wanted and so much more. I would highly recommend checking out Mafia Casanova, you will not regret it. I cannot wait to read more from the authors in the future! :)

🌟 BOOK BLITZ 🌟 Faerest by Brianna Bennett {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

Faerest by Brianna Bennett

Release Date: November 10th 2020
Genres: Adult, Fairy Tales, Retelling

Mystery has surrounded Sydney White for as long as she can remember. Her mother’s death puzzled even the hardiest of investigators, but eventually, they just stopped trying. So, when Syd is presented with the opportunity to finish a degree in faery anthropology that her mother began over twenty years ago, she leaps at the chance to learn the truth. However, truth is often stranger than fiction, especially when the lines between faery and human are eroding each day. Syd will have to navigate unthinkable deals, a prince in peril she swore she would never speak to again, and an organization only known as Coventry.

{EXCERPT}

Strangely, she could still feel the careful caress of his skin on hers, which of course transitioned into other memories about their final night together. ‘No, we’re not going there.’ she told herself firmly, shaking her head as if that would knock the memories from her brain.

Once she fully came back to the present, she found that Sal had already chosen a track and the timekeeper was counting down. ‘Focus, Syd. Dinner is on the line.’ she told herself, the controller’s smooth plastic familiar and comforting.

Princess Peach, Syd’s favorite character, took off when she accelerated, cruising to the front of the pack efficiently.

She made use of all of the boosters, and she was lapping everyone else within minutes. ‘It feels good to get behind the wheel again, so to speak.’ She thought, and soon enough she found herself embracing the thrill of competition.

While Sal and Syd faced off, Jamie sat between them. Each time someone got ahead of Syd on the track, the lights would strobe ever so slightly, but as soon as she reclaimed first place, they stopped.

He glanced over at Sal and caught Sal looking at him out of the corner of his eye. Jamie’s mouth went dry, and he forced himself to focus on the game. Three rounds later, Syd shot up and cheered for her win.

“YES!” She looked down her nose haughtily at Sal. Jamie watched the scripted awards ceremony unfold, Princess Peach on the top tier, Bowser in second, and one of the computer-controlled racers in third.

“Looks like you’re buying dinner!” she crowed triumphantly.

“I can’t believe I just lost to a princess,” Sal said after a beat, and Syd smirked victoriously.

“There’s your first lesson in Mario Kart and in life: Never underestimate the princess.”

🌟 RELEASE DAY BLITZ 🌟 Let It Snow by Cassie Cross {EXCERPT}

Let It Snow by Cassie Cross

Release Date: November 12th 2020
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Amy Winstead is a twenty something video producer who loves Christmas more than anyone she’s ever known. This year, the holidays are gonna be a lot less happy because she can’t afford the plane ticket home to celebrate with her family, and her best and oldest friend Josh is moving halfway across the country for a new job that he couldn’t turn down.

When Josh asks her to accompany him on his road trip from Texas to Connecticut and offers to pay for her plane ticket back home, how could Amy say no? He’s promised some fun surprises on the trip, and more time with him could never be a bad thing.

One surprise Josh hasn’t planned on is the record-breaking blizzard heading their way. They decide to wait out the storm in the charming town of Holly Hill, where a little holiday magic and a lot of snow combine to help Josh and Amy realize that the something that’s always simmered between them could easily become something more…

{EXCERPT}

Fate blessed me the moment Josh Abbott came into my life. It was just before his first birthday, when I was six weeks old. My mom set me down across his lap, posing us for a picture that I keep a copy of on my phone, one that’s framed and displayed on the fireplace mantel at my parents’ house.

In it, Josh is wearing this little yellow and blue striped t-shirt, his blonde hair a cute mess that was his trademark until we graduated from high school. I have on a light pink onesie with a hood that has ears on it. Josh grins down at me as I hold his finger in a white-knuckled grip.

Mom says neither one of us wanted to let go that day, and that’s when she and Josh’s mom, Gloria, knew we’d be best friends forever.

Twenty-six years later, we’re still inseparable…for the next six days, at least. That’s when Josh is loading up his car and making the drive from Austin to Connecticut to start a new job that he just couldn’t turn down. They offered him almost double his current salary; I can’t really blame him for ditching me right before my favorite holiday, honestly.

I’m trying to learn how to deal with it. Most days, I desperately lie to myself about how living without him won’t be as bad as I think. Then I wind up flip-flopping between being irrationally angry at him and unfathomably sad. I’m constantly 100% head-over-heels in love with him.

That’s my little secret, though.

For one brief moment, I had a sliver of hope that we were on the same page. He invited me out to dinner at our favorite place, and I’d gotten swept up in fantasies that he’d take my hands across the table, smile that gorgeous smile of his and say, “Ames, I’m in love with you.”

What he actually said was, “Ames, I’m moving back home. I got a job in New York.”

I can’t blame him for trying to soften the blow with barbecue, but I lost my appetite after that.

I haven’t really gotten it back. It’s worked out in my favor for the most part, since this time of year I’m working a schedule that doesn’t allow much time for eating. I’m an editor/producer for a social media baking star. We’re about four months ahead in the production schedule, so while it’s Christmas in real time, it’s been Easter in my world for the past few weeks. I’ve barely had time for a real meal, so I’ve basically just been inhaling the baked goods after we’ve finished taking pictures of them for Instagram.

Yesterday, I had a handful of almonds and a sizable portion of a bunny’s butt made out of yellow cake, raspberry jam, and the most amazingly fluffy buttercream frosting I’ve ever had.

At this point, my body is screaming, NUTRIENTS, PLEASE!

Josh knows me like the back of his hand, and has some kind of weird internal alarm that sounds whenever I’ve gone a few days without eating a vegetable. I’m positive that’s why he invited me over to eat, and why I gave him a hard time before I said yes.

I know I’m lucky to have a friend like him. He’s smart, he’s fun, he’s funny, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s model-gorgeous and an absolute pleasure to look at, especially when he’s in the kitchen making me dinner.

🌟 BLOG TOUR 🌟 When the Wind Chimes by Mary Ting {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

When the Wind Chimes by Mary Ting

Release Date: November 17th 2020 by Rosewind Books
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Kaitlyn Summers is heartbroken.

When she receives an invitation to spend Christmas with her family on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, she feels it may be the perfect medicine.

She throws herself into helping her sister’s struggling art gallery, even taking a temporary job for extra money by looking after a little girl from her nephew’s school. She also begins to paint again, something she’s been unable to do since her breakup. It’s tempting to stay on Kauai, but she has obligations back in Los Angeles.

Life gets more complicated when circumstances keep putting her close to Leonardo Medici. Not only is he drop-dead gorgeous, he’s a local celebrity. But Kaitlyn can’t shake the feeling he’s hiding something.

Should she believe the rumors that he’s romancing half the island’s single women?

Or is the random sound of wind chimes when he’s close-by a sign that an angel is near and the secret to her happily ever after?

{EXCERPT}

I let my eyes roam about his face, memorizing the details—my artist’s habit, or so I told myself. I wanted to run my fingers along his dark brooding eyebrows, down his perfect nose, curve around his high cheekbones, and caress those kissable lips. I had the urge to create a sculpture of this perfect Mr. Medici. This flawless being that looked and stood like a Greek god.

His impressive physique made me imagine him as Zeus, or perhaps Poseidon, who had walked straight out of a romantic fantasy novel, with a taste for mortal women.

I really needed to stop reading those books.

I took a step back, composing myself with the little dignity I had left. “Mr. Medici, how may I help you?”

He stood silent, just examining me. I wasn’t sure how much time had passed when he broke away.

“I think you did enough,” he said and pivoted sharply, his dress shoes tapping against the tile.

I shook my head in disbelief as I watched him strut out the door. I was the unicorn and he was the skeleton. He’d just eaten me alive, taken all my glitter power and magic with him. I didn’t know why I cared.

Oh, yes I do. He might be one of Abby’s biggest customers. This could cost her.

“Mr. Medici. Wait.” I burst out and sprinted after him.
