Best I Ever Had by S.L. Scott

Release Date: February 25th 2022
Pages: 454
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

The storm.

The man.

Both come without warning.

My heart opens to Cooper Haywood the moment we meet. How can it resist? He’s charming, devastatingly handsome, and sweeps me off my feet before I realize the impact he’s making. And then it’s too late.

We fall too fast to worry about the consequences.

We love so hard that we ache when we’re apart.

Even though I have a past that still haunts me and he has a future that could put us at risk, none of that matters when we’re together.

Until it does.

And then everything changes.

Although the best thing he ever gave me now calls me Mommy, I can’t help but wonder if Cooper Haywood and that fateful storm were one and the same.

My Review:

From the intriguing synopsis to the eye catching cover, S.L. Scott delivers an emotionally intense second chance romance in her latest release, Best I Ever Had. Filled with secrets and twists to keep you reading until the very end.

Haywood might be his last name, but for Cooper being part of a legacy has not being easy. The prestige and wealth that come with his name doesn’t always attract the right crowd. He is a player who is not looking to get into a relationship, until he sees her for the first time at his party. She is gorgeous and not alone. She is dancing with her boyfriend and Cooper wishes they could meet. He has never believed in omens or signs, but that’s exactly what brings him to a cafe one stormy day and finally gets to meet Story Salenger. Their chemistry is instant and he finds himself wanting to spend more time Story. There is something different about her that draws him in, she sees the real him and not his money. As they start to spend more time together, Cooper realizes that his feelings for Story are growing at a rapid speed. He will do anything to keep them together, even go against his own family. Until he finds out more about Story’s past and how they might be connected that threaten to destroy what they’ve built together.

For Story Salenger, meeting Cooper Haywood for the first time had her immediately falling for his charm and good looks. He sweeps her off her feet that stormy day and doesn’t let go. He represents the good in her life after the tragic events of her past. Cooper is attentive, kind and passionate when it comes to her. Story doesn’t want to wake up from the world that they’ve created, but there are a lot of uncertainties when it comes to their future. They are about to graduate soon and she planned to leave town after getting her diploma. Now having Cooper in her life has her double guessing what their future holds. But nothing could have prepared her for the twist of events that quickly transpire the minute she finds out what really happened in her past that changed her life forever. Story will have to decide if giving Cooper a chance is worth a shot or if she needs to move on before it’s too late.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Best I Ever Had, it was one of those stories that had me captivated with the characters and storyline. We get to meet Cooper and Story, two complete opposites that attract once they are together. They come from two different worlds and we get to see that being part of their struggles. There is preconceived notion that Cooper is going to follow on his dad’s footsteps and work for the family business. But that’s not what he wants, he wants to make his own choices yet it’s hard to do that when his family has the connections and upper hand. On the other hand, Story has been through a lot growing up. She is a surviver and we get to see her evolve the more she gets put to the test. She is willing to be with Cooper no matter what, but things change when she finds out that she is pregnant. While there are a lot of things that I loved about this book, the end felt a bit rushed to me. I wish the author could have explained certain things a bit further, it would have made the story truly stand out. The majority of the story is so detailed to have the ending cut short. All in all, it was still a great read and I would recommend checking out! :)

🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 Second Chance Scandal by M. Robinson

Second Chance Scandal by M. Robinson

Release Date: February 22nd 2022
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

From Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author M. Robinson comes a second chance sports romance.

Blackmail isn’t the most romantic way to propose, but with the history between us … I had no choice.

Long story short--I broke her heart and pushed her away. Years later we reconnected, and this time she walked away.

Neither of us knew she was pregnant.

So when we had a second chance to be a real family, I led her to believe our marriage was fake— that one football season by my side was the only way to prevent another scandal for my career.

We were a publicist’s dream. I was football god and she was a world famous romance author.

The world would fall in love with our story…

But the truth was…

I was never letting them go.

My Review:

M. Robinson delivers a gripping sports romance in Second Chance Scandal. This sweet second chance romance will leave you rooting for the characters until the very end. Having met them in the previous books in the series, we finally get to dive into their pasts and how they ultimately end up together.

At the beginning of the book we are taken back seven years ago when Jax Colton has proven that he is the best quarterback of all time. All the attention is on him when at a press junket he is asked if he is ever going to settle down. That’s not something that he’s ever thought about, until he sees Sophie Hayes again. They haven’t seen each other since the night he broke her heart and Jax doesn’t realize just how much his life is about to change after that.

It’s for the last thirteen years that Jax has played well for Miami, but when they refuse to listen to his demands of what he wants, an opportunity comes that can’t be overlooked. Jax will finally have the chance to lead a team and make it the best. But when news of his trade to his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas come out early, it becomes a PR nightmare for him. That’s when his agent gets him the best publicists around and she suggests that in order to save his image, Jax has to find a fake wife. Growing up without an example of what a good marriage looks like, it’s not something that he is willing to pursue now. Yet, it’s his past that comes to haunt him again and this time when he sees that Sophie might be hiding something from him all these years all bets are off and he is not letting her go ever again.

Sophie Hayes was just seventeen when she met Jax and thought that he was the going to be the one. She fell for his charm and the ability to connect with her when no one else had. As the housekeeper’s daughter, Sophie witnessed just how different their worlds were. He had a future set as he continued to play football and she didn’t know if she was going to be part of his life after heading to college. While Sophie gave him everything she had, he in return hurt her in a way that made her see who he really was.

It would be years later for them to reconnect only this time, she was going to do exactly what he did to her without imagining the consequences of her actions. Now she is raising their son as best as she can with the help and love of those around her. But just when Sophie thought that she could keep her identity a secret from the world, Jax shows up ready to put her on the spotlight if she doesn’t marry him. He wants to be part of their son’s life after missing so much already and she is afraid that if she doesn’t marry him, he might take their son away from her. It’s a risk she has to take no matter how much she hates him for hurting her all those years ago. But when Sophie sees how good Jax is with their son and with her, she starts to question whether or not to give their marriage a real shot.

I really enjoyed reading Second Chance Scandal, the characters were relatable as well as the storyline. It’s told in duel point-of-view and with time changes from past to present. We are able to understand their backgrounds and the decisions that they make throughout the story. Their chemistry when they first meet is instant and it just keeps growing with their relationship. As the two drift apart and start their careers, they are brought together once again when Jax needs a fake wife. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about her, she is the only woman that has made him feel loved, no matter how much he claims that he doesn’t know how to love. He is the overprotective and caring quarterback that will leave you rooting for him. There are a lot of secrets that we get to see unfold and the ending is what truly worked for their story. I would highly recommend checking it out as well as the previous books in the series. :)

{EXCERPT}

What did it mean to dream about the same place? While contemplating that question, I tried to find an opening through the field.

Grabbing handfuls of grass, I pushed and pulled every which way. No matter how much I yanked, the vast wall of swaying grasses remained. Feeling defeated, I thought I would try one last time.

Then he appeared.

“Don’t you ever give up?” he said in the most hypnotic voice. His lips twitched, amused by my efforts.

“Umm …” Stunned to see someone looking at me, I stared at the most perfect, glorious face, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

As his gaze continued to pierce mine, he stepped in my direction. Having no other choice, I retreated. He was intimidating, and his authority made me willingly compliant. My heart pounded mercilessly as I wondered what that guy could be doing here.

He certainly fit the description of how I had envisioned the man of my dreams: six feet tall, dark hair, and warm, inviting brown eyes. He was lean but extraordinarily muscular, and his skin appeared to be made of satin.

My face warmed as I admired his body. I wondered if he could read my unclean thoughts or hear my heart racing.

Time seemed to stop as we stared into each other’s eyes—no need for words, just alone in each other’s company.

The tension broke when he spoke. “What are you doing here? Do you want to be sent back like before?”

Hearing his velvety voice again sent pleasant tingles to my core. But send me back like before? Then it dawned on me. It was his voice I had heard in my last dream. Although I felt frustrated and angered by his comments, I tried to stay calm and see where the dream would take me.

“First of all, who are you?” I tried to sound composed. “And what are you doing in my dream?”

“Your dream? You think this is a dream? Think again.”

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Hollywood’s hottest actor is off the market! Who’s the mystery woman that caught his eye…and his heart?

Who doesn’t love a love story? Now let’s see if what’s-her-name wants to make some money and industry connections. It’s a win-win.

Sophia: The whole world knows who the Grier brothers are. The sexy Hollywood actors are on every woman’s wish list—and if I’m honest, mine too. But then I met Roman Grier and totally embarrassed myself. At least I’ll never see him again.

Only now he’s pursuing me. Well, kinda. He is promising me the world. Literally. I’ve always wanted to be a screenwriter, and he’s got the connections to get me through the door—if I pretend to date him and lie to everyone. It’s only a few months, and it’s not like I’m going to fall for Roman Grier for real…

{EXCERPT}

“Pongo!” I called to the prancing Dalmatian. “Come on, boy. Time to go home.”

Because I had about forty minutes to get to my other job and traffic was insane this time of day.

I’d taken about five steps with Pongo at my side when he gave a bark and dashed off.

“Pongo!” I yelled, but he didn’t even look over his shoulder at me. He’d always obeyed me before. “Pongo! Come!”

Instead, he crashed into a guy walking toward us. I watched in horror as they both went down in a tangle of flailing legs and fur. But over the sound of the ocean, I heard laughter.

I raced over to them. “I am so, so sorry. This big lug needs to learn some manners. Are you okay?”

The man pushed Pongo away from licking his face, and I gasped.

Roman Grier.

Pongo had tackled Roman Grier, Hollywood’s golden boy and my personal celebrity crush, Roman freaking Grier.

I felt distinctly light-headed. Taking a few swaying steps toward them, I grabbed Pongo’s collar and hauled him off the movie star. “I am so, so sorry. He usually listens to me. I’ve never had him tackle anyone but me.”

Pongo strained against my hold, whining as he stretched to lick Roman Grier.

Who was still flat on his back.

“Oh my god. I’m so sorry. Here.” Still holding Pongo’s collar with one hand, I reached down to help Roman Grier up, but Pongo took the opportunity to bolt back onto him again. Pongo’s momentum ripped me off balance, and I crashed down on top of my movie star crush.

Where I’d always dreamed of being.

But not like this!

I scrambled away from his hard, tight body. God, he really did have the firmest chest. Averting my eyes, I brushed the sand off my shorts and scolded the damn dog. “Pongo. No.”

🔖 REVIEW 🔖 The Commander by Melanie Moreland

The Commander by Melanie Moreland

Release Date: February 1st 2022 by Moreland Books Inc
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Men of Hidden Justice
Because love can bleed into the darkest heart

My instincts had always served me well.
Listening to my gut, the warning voice in my head that told me when to walk away.
I never failed to heed the signs.
Until the day she walked into my office.
I knew she would be trouble, but I ignored the alarm bells.
And then it was too late, and I fell. Hard.
A lie tore us apart, and I thought I’d lost her forever.
But now she’s back—with a secret she’s been keeping.
This time, I’m not letting her go.

My Review:

Melanie Moreland delivers a captivating story in The Commander, the third book in the Men of Hidden Justice Series. From the intriguing synopsis to the eye catching cover, this suspenseful romance is full of surprises that won’t disappoint.

To the outside world, Julian Grayson runs Elite Security, a very successful security company. But what people don’t know is that his company is just a facade for what he commands behind-the-scenes. As the Commander of Hidden Justice, part of his job is to oversee multiple teams for various missions. Although Julian doesn’t actively participate in missions, he still sometimes craves the danger that comes with his job. But it’s a beautiful redhead that suddenly puts his instincts to the test, as she stumbles into his office to interview for the assistant job that he listed. There is something about Taliyah that he can’t let go of, a sadness that he wants to make go away. She is everything he tries to avoid, yet he finds himself giving her the job. No matter how much he wants to put a distance between them, Julian can’t seem to stop thinking about her. It would take a turn of events to bring them even closer and for him to want to protect her when he finds out about her past. Julian has never felt this type of connection before and he will do anything to protect what’s his no matter what.

Taliyah Wells has one goal and that is to earn enough money to pay off her student debt, then ultimately gain enough volunteering experience at the museum in order to became a curator. So when she overhears about the assistant job opening at Elite Security, she rushes to the interview as fast as she could. Julian Grayson wasn’t what she expected, he is attractive and full of commanding confidence that overwhelms her right away. Working for a security company brings her comfort and she enjoys her job. Until an incident at work happens that she starts to see a more overprotective side of her boss. They can no longer deny the attraction between them and they give in to their feelings for each other. But it’s just when she was starting to see a future together that Taliyah finds out what Julian has been keeping her that could threaten what they’ve built together. She will have to decide if she stays or leaves behind the man she is very much in love with.

I really enjoyed everything about this book, Moreland is able to execute a well-thought-out story that had my attention from beginning to end. With the characters having similar backgrounds, they are able to connect right away. Julian becomes overprotective of Taliyah the minute they start to spend more time together. He senses that there is something more about her and wants to make things right for her. Their chemistry is what kept me rooting for the characters as they went through ups and downs in their relationship. Taliyah is able to lean on Julian and trust him to keep her safe. The story starts off in the present, then to the past and present at the end. This shift in timeline gives us a better picture into the characters’ relationship and explains the decisions that they make along the way. While the story is romantic, it’s also steamy, suspenseful and there are some unexpected twists as well. I loved the ending, it was emotional and sweet. I would highly recommend checking out this series, you will not regret it!
