The Hero I Need by Nicole Snow

Release Date: January 22nd 2021
Pages: 425
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Thriller

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow returns with a hilariously intense small-town love story where two star-crossed hearts and one snarly tiger ignite a romance up-roar.

He knew I was trouble the instant I showed up with a stolen Bengal tiger.
But Grady McKnight didn’t flinch like a sane person—he took us in.
Bruce the tiger found shelter. I met a hero grump. And Grady got a hot mess.
Namely, me.
Born-to-sizzle single dads and rogue zoologists don’t play nice.

So freaking what if I said I’m his nanny?
We needed a story when his two sweet daughters barged in.
Hiding a contraband tiger isn’t easy.
Neither is pretending he isn’t sending my pulse to pitter-patter heaven.

Cupid, you sneaky little nugget.
There’s only room for one hulking, growly, mesmerizing beast in my life.
I don’t belong at warm family dinners, or in the fortress of his arms.
Saving Bruce is my mission—not falling in love.

This won’t end well.
The longer I stay, the more he grins.
Walls come crashing down.
And my heart becomes willing prey for his carnivorous eyes.
I must resist Grady flipping McKnight.
Even if a scared, aching part of me knows I’m already his.
Even if I know he’s the hero I need…

Full-length romance thriller with the growliest Happily Ever After. It’s claws and effect when a wounded single dad saves a firestarter—along with her tiger, his girls, and his own beat-up heart.

“Car trouble?” a deep voice booms behind me.

The back of my head smacks the steering wheel in my rush to get up. Ow.

Pressing a hand against the stinging pain, I stand up, close my eyes, and say a quick prayer in my head.

The gruff voice isn’t Niles or Priscilla Foss’, but only God knows who they’d send after me if they’ve figured out Bruce the tiger is gone.

“Lady? You okay?” the stranger thunders again, this time closer.

“Yes! Never better,” I strangle out. Not easily with my heart pounding in my throat.

“Funny kind of better,” the voice growls to my back. “Looks more like you could use a hand.”

Hoping it’ll help, I gather my hair in one hand and lift it off the back of my neck, which is slicked with sweat in the humid night air, and finally turn around.

Holy Ohio.

I have to release my hair in order to tilt my head back far enough to see more than a massive chest covered with a black t-shirt sporting a picture of a purple bob cat. Mouth open. Teeth showing.

And it turns out that slab of a chest is attached to a mountain with arms and legs.

He’s tall, dark, shredded, and deliriously handsome.

I won’t call him muscular because it would be an injustice. Like calling Samson a bodybuilder.

This man looks like he could hoist Bruce over his head without breaking a sweat.

Moving my eyes up over shoulders that’d make Atlas seethe with jealously and a thick neck worthy of a bull, my gaze lands on a face. An amused one, with deep manly lines around flinty hazel-dark eyes.

This looks like a face that’s used to smiling, even if he’s rocking that scary-hot vibe like he invented it.

Only, right now, there’s a smirk carved on his chiseled face that says he might be insane enough to try lifting a full-grown tiger as a feat of strength.

Oh, crap.

Bruce!

If there’s one thing I can’t do—besides let this guy climb inside my head and eat crackers nice and slow—is let him catch on to the fact that I’m hauling around some very illegal cargo, and it’s alive.

“What kind of trouble are you having?” he asks, his eyes twinkling in the dim light.

At the moment, breathing.

Next up, peeling my eyes off him and finding the willpower to mutter more than a squeak in reply.

His jaw is square, his nose straight, his hair short, but not too short. And his mouth, that smile, it’s—

It’s officially too much to handle.

I huff out a loud breath to stop a heavenly fantasy from forming and get my thoughts back to hell. Because that’s where I’m actually at right now, blundering around an isolated parking lot in the middle of the night with a strange man and a not-so-well concealed monster in my trailer.

Fun times.

I’m not too proud to admit that finding Mr. Right involves swiping right. Right? Welcome to dating in avocado toastland.

Here I am, on my first blind date, ever, courtesy of a smartphone app and my two annoying best friends.

So what is Chris “Fletch” Fletcher doing, walking across the room, looking at his phone like he’s pattern matching a picture to find a real person he’s never met before?

Oh.

Oh, no.

The guy I drop-kicked in seventh grade cannot be my blind date. The guy who earned me this infernal nickname.

That’s right.

Feisty.

{EXCERPT}

My lungs have decided that the world is too dangerous to make a move, utter a sound, do anything. I'm frozen, the pulse inside me growing stronger as time ticks away. My own shut-down system is the barrier to oxygen. The disconnect between what my body needs and what my tattered psyche can handle is causing my overload to leak out in a really obvious way.

“Fiona?” Josh says, shaking me gently, Michelle looking to him for certainty.

And then suddenly, Josh is out of my sight, replaced by two clear, calm, green eyes, light brown hair, and hands that feel like anchors.

“Feisty? Feis–Fiona?” Fletch corrects. The sudden pivot to using my proper name is jarring, given the fact that every atom in the world is buzzing inside my ears and nothing anyone does will help me to breathe.

I make a strange sound. I know it's strange because his eyebrows turn down in the middle, his facial muscles pushing them low enough to show concern.

Concern for me.

“Breathe,” he says slowly as he puts one hand on my diaphragm, fingers warm and firm.

I make a sound to indicate that I am confused and the speech centers in my brain have shut down. Empathy floods me as I realize this is exactly what my student with severe apraxia, little Myles, must feel like when he loses his words under extreme stress. For years, I've said “use your words” to four-year-olds having anxiety fits.

Never again.

“Breathe, Fiona,” he murmurs, taking a deep breath to demonstrate, his belly expanding in a comical way, though I know his technique is strong. Hypnotic and commanding, his voice and body tell me what to do, guide me back from being lost in the woods to a cleared trail where I can find my footing, take a rest, and possibly feel safe again, knowing I can find my way home.

I inhale, the insides of my nostrils cold, the air hitting my nasal passages a welcome assault, diaphragm spasming and sputtering back to life.

“That's my girl,” he whispers against the curl of my ear, his breath like coffee, his hard forearm muscles all I can see, the ripped cord of his strong lines drawing my gaze. “You just breathe. It's over now. You did it. You saved them. It's okay to breathe.” He inhales, then slowly exhales. “Let's do this together now.”

🌟 REVIEW BLITZ 🌟 Dare to Stay by Carly Phillips

Dare to Stay by Carly Phillips

Release Date: January 26th 2021
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

He’s the one who left.
She’s the one he left behind.

Willow James, athletic trainer for the Miami Thunder football team, knows abandonment and hurt. A child of foster care, she’s been moved around and left behind more times than she cares to count. Just when she was starting to let her guard down with Braden Prescott, he left for a two year stint with Doctors Without Borders. Now he’s back.

Dr. Braden Prescott always felt like an outsider in his family of professional sports players. He’s traveled the world and is better for it, but now he’s home with a job for the Miami Thunder. When he comes face to face with the woman he left behind, their chemistry still smolders. She’ll give him her body again but not her heart.

He knows leaving her once was the biggest mistake of his life. Can Willow learn to trust him not to leave, especially when adventure comes calling again?

My Review:

I’ve been loving the Dare Nation Series and Dare to Stay did not disappoint at all. This second chance sports romance is heartwarming, steamy and swoon worthy.

Braden Prescott is finally home after being away with Doctors Without Borders for the last two years. Upon his return, he never expected to get offered the position as head team general doctor for the Miami Thunder, considering sports medicine had never been something he was interested in. Branden has always been surrounded by sports professionals in his family, so they were surprised when he took a different career path since he was expected to be part of a sports family. Wanting to do something for himself, he was offered a position abroad and he took it knowing that he was also going to be leaving the woman he was in a relationship with behind. Now the same woman is going to working for him and this time he is going to do anything in his power to get her back.

Willow James’s life hasn’t always been easy, growing up in foster care, she is used to moving around all the time. Every foster family was different, until he met Dr. Peter Jonas and his family that she finally felt at home. He was the one that gave her the opportunity to work for the Miami Thunder and she is now one of the lead trainers there. She had the perfect relationship with Braden, until he left her and her ability to trust completely shattered. Now she has to work for him and see him everyday. But it’s until they started to spend more time together that she begins to feel for him again, she vowed to not trust him again and that’s exactly what she is going to do. He might have her body, but she can’t have her heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dare to Stay, the characters have chemistry and the story is full of twists to keep you reading until the very end. It’s clear from the start that both of the characters have a lot to work on, learning to trust is a big issue for them, but they always seem to lean on each other in the end. It’s told in dual POV and I liked how a lot of the characters in previous books in the series made appearances throughout the book making the story much more enjoyable to read. We also get a glimpse of what’s to come in a later series which was great. All in all, the story was engaging, swoon worthy and the ending will leave you wanting for more. Highly recommend checking out this book as well as the rest of the series. I cannot wait to read what Carly Phillips comes up with next. :)

🌟 BOOK BLITZ 🌟 The Secret of Dartwood Manor by N.A. Triptow {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

The Secret of Dartwood Manor by N.A. Triptow

Release Date: January 18th 2021
Series: The Witchling Trilogy, #1
Pages: 388
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult

Witches. Ghosts. An ancient secret. Enter a world of myth and magic through this contemporary fantasy reimagining of Jane Austen’s beloved classic, Sense and Sensibility.

The small New England town of Tarryville, Maine is steeped in history, having been settled by the Dartwood and Farris families who fled Salem during the witch trials. The Dartwood sisters, Eden, Mariah, and Melissa, unexpectedly return home after their parents are found murdered. Upon their arrival, the girls are plagued by dreams in which dark spectral beings haunt them. When the hellish creatures seem to be more than just nightmares, another mystery begins to unravel as they discover that the circumstances around the murder of their parents may be far more menacing than they appear. Frantic for answers, they must untangle the mystery of their parents’ murders and reconstruct the pieces of an ancient secret. With the help of the young assistant curator of their family museum, Baden Correia, and an estranged friend from their past, Evan Farris, the orphaned Dartwood sisters must uncover the truth before the darkness haunting their family descends upon them as well.

{EXCERPT}

“Have a good night, Dr. McConnell,” Baden held the door for one of their regulars as the woman exited the Dartwood Library and Museum. She was the last patron of the evening. Locking the door behind her, he turned to finish cleaning up

for the night. Returning a few stray books to their homes on the shelves and throwing scraps of paper in the trash was all he had left to do. As he made his way toward one of the tables, his attention was drawn toward a nearby bookshelf. He could hear a voice whispering something. Someone was behind that shelf.

“Hello?” Baden called out. Hearing only more whispering, he headed for the bookshelf, spotting the silhouette of a woman. Wondering how he had missed her before, he turned the corner and said, “I’m sorry but we’re closed for the eve—” His words cut short as he froze in place, staring at the suddenly empty space behind the bookshelf.

“Baden,” a woman chimed from across the room.

“Who’s there?” he called out, spinning on his heals. How had the woman crossed the room so quickly?

“Don’t you remember me, old friend?”

Baden followed the voice into the center of the room and caught the tail of a white cloak that only partially obscured what appeared to be a toga rushing behind another bookshelf. He had finished his rounds through the museum checking for patrons. No one else had been there. He was certain. Now, staring at the strange silhouette gliding behind the shelves, he couldn’t help but think of the Dartwoods. They had been murdered at night in their own home. “This isn’t funny,” he tried to speak with confidence, but it came out as little more than a whimper.

“They’ve finally come,” the voice seemed to be coming from everywhere despite the fact that he could distinctly see her gliding in front of him.

“Who’s come?” He made his way around the shelves to face the woman, but she was gone once more. When no answer came, he closed his eyes. “You’re just tired,” he said to himself, shaking his head, before opening his eyes.

The whispering began again, this time closer. It was right on the other side of the bookshelf he was standing next to. Slowly he turned and saw the silhouette behind the shelf. Inhaling, he placed a weak hand on the spine of the massive text that obstructed his view of her. The whispering was still a constant hum, but he’d have to be quick if he wanted to avoid her disappearing again. Rapidly, he pulled the book out of its place and was met with the weary expression of a frail old woman, her milky eyes boring into him, though he doubted they could see much of anything. “Que susto!” he all but screamed, leaping back. He recognized her. She’d been in his nightmare the night of the murder. Somehow, though, her visage felt more familiar than the simple memory of a dream. He knew her, but he did not know how.

“They are in danger,” the crone hissed in warning, and then she was gone. She hadn’t run away or moved to the side. She had merely vanished.

Placing the book back on the shelf, he buried his face in his hands. There was no way he had seen a woman just disappear in front of him. It was impossible.

Feeling his phone vibrate in his pocket, he jumped. Sighing a laugh, he tried to clear his thoughts. It must have been a hallucination brought on by grief and stress. There was no other explanation. Stilling himself, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and went to finish cleaning up.

Brooke Anderson never pictured herself as a divorcee at twenty-eight. But when she mentions getting a post-nup to her husband Garrett after one deliciously sex-filled year, he promptly serves her with divorce papers. Admittedly, she could’ve told him about how her father left her and her mother homeless when she was young, and how she’s never been wired to trust anyone. Especially those closest to her. Now, all she wants to do is avoid anywhere he might be so she won’t have to face him again.

But she’s not the only one who can’t seem to trust.

Garrett Call grew up with parents who married for money and wants no part of a life that puts material possessions above love. He reinvented himself in college, complete with a new last name so he couldn’t be tied to his family’s lucrative business. He never even told Brooke the truth. Admittedly, he could’ve handled the issue of a post-nup better with his ex-wife. Maybe he didn’t count on how much he was going to miss having her in his life.

🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 The Stud Next Door by Kendall Ryan

The Stud Next Door by Kendall Ryan

Release Date: January 19th 2021
Pages: 201
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

A sexy, single dad standalone romance coming soon from New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

Life threw me a curveball. An adorable eight-pound, four-ounce curveball with her mother’s eyes and my dark hair. I’d like to think my single-dad game is strong, but honestly? I’ve been struggling a little.

When a beautiful young woman moves in next door and offers to give me a hand, I jump at the chance to hire her as a nanny. Jessa is amazing with my daughter. She’s also patient, kind, and way too pretty.

The number one rule of hiring a nanny? Don’t bed the nanny.

It’s a rule I intend to keep.

But as the days pass, I begin to realize how much my life is missing. Companionship. Romance. Intimacy. When I discover my heart has space for one more female, it’s a lost cause, another curveball. The hot-as-hell nanny is leaving soon for a mission trip to Central America. No sense in letting myself fantasize about Jessa being a permanent part of my life.

The closer we get, the more difficult it becomes to keep my feelings in check, because my heart won’t listen. And neither will my libido.

Well, you know what they say. Rules are meant to be broken . . .

My Review:

The Stud Next Door by Kendall Ryan is the third book in her Frisky Business Series, a sexy single dad romance that will have you swooning and rooting for characters until the very end.

Connor Blake might run a successful business, but his life completely changed the minute he found out that he was going to be a dad. Now that his bachelor lifestyle is over, he has to figure out fatherhood on his own. But his adorable baby girl, Marley, makes it all worth it no matter how much he is struggling. So when he meets his new neighbor and sees how good she is with Marley, he offers her to be her nanny. Jessa is knowledgeable, patient and caring towards Marley and he couldn’t be happier to have her. Yet, the more time she spends with them the more he is starting to develop feelings for her. Connor initially hired her to help out with Marley, but Jessa became so much more, if only he could keep her for good.

Jessa never expected to get hired as a nanny on her first day in the neighborhood, but Marley completely stole her heart and she just knew that the little girl needed her. That’s not to say that Marley’s dad didn’t, no matter how much she has tired to keep things professional between them their immediate connection keeps pulling them together. Even though she is starting to develop feeling for him, she knows that they can’t go any further as she has an assignment in Central America with a nonprofit organization all lined up. In the very little time that she has spent with Marley and Connor, she has grown to be part of their lives and she wonders if leaving them behind is worth it or not.

I loved The Stud Next Door, Kendall Ryan nailed the single dad trope in this story. The characters are relatable and their connection is instant right away. Jessa comes into Connor’s life as he is transitioning from being a total bachelor to full-time dad. He is new to everything and he is overwhelmed. But she can see that he truly loves his baby girl and that’s what seals the deal for her. The appearance from his friends also make the story that much more enjoyable to read. They truly have his back and accept Jessa right away. The story is told in Dual POV, it’s sweet, steamy and the ending is perfect for the characters. I highly recommend checking out this book as well as the rest of the series! :)

Rey narrowed his eyes at her as she leaned back against the counter of his galley kitchen. "Why do you want to know all this about me?"

She shrugged, not even knowing why she was so fascinated by him. "Call me curious. I came here thinking I would help a little old man protect himself from sea monsters dwelling in some spooky haunted bay."

"I am an old man."

"You're not little." She awarded him an appreciative look.

"No." His lips curled into a half smile. "I don't think I am."

Saira looked around the place. "Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely boat. Rough on the outside, sure, but cozy inside. You made it your home. Still, you have a huge mansion in Seaport, a fortune, and a family that cares enough about you to spend a few hours on a spell to send me here."

"Hours?"

"Yeah, pretty much." There had been the search for the right spell book, Kerala and Celeste running to town for components, while Diesel's mom Olivia purified herself with a long bath to be ready for the incantation. "Look, you don't fit the selfish type. Believe me, in my career, I've encountered plenty of arseholes. You're not it but—"

"Are you telling me I'm not a jerk?" He raised his glass at her with a smirk. "Thanks a lot, doll.“
