As captain of the Dallas Oilers, I was their leader on and off the ice. From the outside, it looked like I had the perfect life.
I didn’t.
I was married to a woman who refused to give me a divorce. All she wanted was the status title, and all I wanted was to be set free.
It was supposed to be just another event, except it took a turn I didn’t see coming.
Evelyn
Attending my best friend’s bachelorette party isn’t something I was looking forward to.
But it’s strange what a couple of glasses of wine will do.
It was one night, and I thought I would never see him again.
Especially not coming face-to-face with him and his wife while picking up my nephew from hockey practice.
All it takes is one kiss, one touch, one chance, and only one night.
My Review:
As the captain of the Dallas Oilers, Manning is used to being the center of attention and having his life be portrayed as perfect, when it isn’t. For the past four years he has been desperately trying to get out of a marriage that has made him miserable, but he has learned to tolerate it for the sake of his son, Jaxon. Jaxon is Manning’s top priority above anything else and that has made him somehow forget about himself. So when he gets the chance to get out of the house to meet with his one of his sponsors, he is ready to relax and let himself enjoy the night.
He wasn’t expecting to bump into a beautiful woman with a sense of humor that intrigues him right away. As they part ways he can see that she is having fun with her friends, so carefree and that gets him to talk to her. Their connection is instant and what shocks him the most is how she doesn’t recognize who he is. He can be himself with her and they agree to let themselves have one night together with no strings attached. It would take the next day to find her gone to make him see how much he enjoyed being with Evelyn. He can’t stop thinking about her and when they see each other again, he vows to end his marriage for good in order to be with the woman that he loves.
It’s been fourteen years since Evelyn left her town for Chicago and after making a name for herself and going through a hard break up, she is finally back home. She is ready to put the past behind her and working for her family’s financial firm has also given her the ability to spend more time with her family. But she isn’t ready to dive into another relationship, so when her best friend is having a bachelorette party, she is ready to not overthink things and enjoy the night. Little did she know that her life was about to change forever the minute she meets Manning. Their chemistry is off the charts and she wasn’t expecting to see him again. She also finds out that he is married and things suddenly begin to change. Neither of them expected to have such a strong connection when they met, but she is ready to fight for him and their future.
I really enjoyed reading Only One Night, the characters have such an intense and undeniable chemistry that you can’t help but to root for them. Manning was such a great character and a great father. Both him and his wife practically have separate lives, but she enjoys having the perks that get her for being the captain’s wife. She is so adamant that they have to stay together for appearances and Jaxon that she has refused to give him a divorce. He can’t fully move on and he has somehow forgotten how good it feels to be loved. Evelyn comes in at the perfect time, she is strong and knows what she wants. But she also knows that Jaxon will always be Manning’s top priority that she is willing to let him go if they can’t overcome the obstacles coming their way. The ending was sweet and it fit the book really well. I cannot wait to read what happens to Nico and Becca in the next book in the series. I would highly recommend checking out this book, it will not disappoint at all. :)
**I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.**
My Rating:
When her nose isn't buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she's in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It's a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn't listen to her...
Thanks for stopping by! 📚
