🌟 BOOK BLITZ 🌟 The Anti-Relationship Year by Katie Wismer {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY}

The Anti-Relationship Year by Katie Wismer

Release Date: March 30th 2021 by Ahimsa Press
Series: The Pact #2
Pages: 290
Genres: Adult, New Adult, Romance

Johanna Palmer is very much over relationships.

After a scarring experience her freshman year of college, she’s decided she’d much rather have something fun than something serious.

Her best friend Miller has seen it all—the tears, the parties, the drunken phone calls at four in the morning when she needed a ride. In fact, there might be several things Miller saw that Jo herself can’t remember.

Things Miller can’t forget.

With the whirlwind of senior year underway, Jo just wants to move on, get her degree, and land her dream job. But her past might not be as easy to outrun as she’d hoped.

The Anti-Relationship Year is a friends to lovers college romance that acts as a companion to The Anti-Virginity Pact. Both books can be read as standalones.

“They’re seniors at Portland State,” Kayleigh hissed under her breath as the bouncer glanced at their IDs and ushered them inside. Miller wiggled his eyebrows as the three of them hurried through the doors. The bar was lively, but not as crowded as Jo had expected. The stage was just a small platform in the back corner with a few lights pointed in its direction. Wires and musical instruments were strewn about, but none of the band members had surfaced yet.

“I’ve never heard of them,” Jo admitted.

“They’re about to make it big,” Kayleigh insisted, raising onto her tiptoes to get a look at the line out the windows. “I can’t see Addie or Liv anymore.” She turned to Miller. “What are your roommates’ names again?”

Miller frowned and shrugged.

Jo stifled a snort. At least it wasn’t just her.

“You don’t know any of their names?” Kayleigh demanded.

Miller narrowed his eyes, considering this. “Pretty sure one of them is Alan—big guy with the goofy hair? And one of them might be Gatsby. Or maybe he just likes The Great Gatsby…” He shook his head. “Nah, he doesn’t seem like the kind to read. I think it’s his name.”

Kayleigh threw her hands up, her gaze now moving on to survey the rest of the crowd—a few people were wearing T-shirts with the name UNITED FATES scrawled across the front, but not many. She jutted her chin toward the bar and elbowed Jo in the ribs. “You should get the drinks. You look the most twenty-one of the three of us.”

Jo shot an uneasy glance toward the bar and adjusted the straps of her tank top. She already had the wristband from the front door. The hard part was over. She forced a smile and flipped her hair over her shoulders. She’d curled it tonight, and the tinted lights overhead were making it look more wine-colored than its usual copper shade. “I’ll be right back.”

The bartender did a quick once-over as she approached. “What can I get you?” His hair was nearly as red as Johanna’s was, complete with a matching mustache. He also looked to be barely twenty-one himself.

“Three beers.” Her gaze swept the bar, and she pointed to a fish-shaped tap handle. “That one.” She had no idea if that one was any good, but the bartender turned away wordlessly and grabbed three glasses.

“Those all for you?”

A man slid into the chair on Johanna’s left. The first thing she noticed was the tattoos. He braced an arm on the bar, revealing a sleeve all the way from his wrist to his shoulder beneath his white T-shirt. All of the images and words blurred seamlessly together, the black ink stark against his pale skin. A silver coin on a long chain dangled from his neck as he leaned forward.

The second thing she noticed was how inky and gelled his hair was, styled to stand up just-so in the front. He must have spent at least half as long as she had in front of the mirror tonight.

The final thing she noticed was the way his eyes lingered on her body. He found her face eventually, but it was a steep climb to get there. He started at her legs, then gradually made it to her hips, her waist, her chest, and then, finally, her eyes. He wasn’t even being subtle about it. He wanted her to see him looking at her.

From what she could tell, he had a nice body, too. But she definitely wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of watching her check him out.

“I don’t have NPS tattooed on my lip for nothing,” she said as the bartender returned and slid the beers across the counter to her.

“NPS?” asked the mystery guy.

She quirked an eyebrow at him over her shoulder. “No pussy shit.”

{EXCERPT}

"You've got some asshole customers, though," he added. “This one guy wanted to haggle over how much we charged. Especially since we didn’t offer extra ‘amenities’ and didn’t offer him delivery. Total douchebag.”

She sighed. “GMC van owner? Wears a beanie?”

“Yeah. You know him?”

She shrugged. “He was kind of a sexist asshat when he dropped it off. Was looking for the mechanic — a man, obviously, not a woman like me.”

She couldn’t help but notice that Jericho looked her over quickly, lingering on her chest just a second after she said woman. His eyebrow went up. “And you didn’t kill him?”

“Nope. I did my patented calming technique, went hyper-cheerful, and sent him on his way.”

Jericho moved closer, all but whispering in her ear. “Someday, you gotta teach me this technique of yours.”

She shivered. I’d love to teach you muscle-tensing and relaxing techniques. Which only brought back memories of last night’s dream.

“Do you really want to know?” she quickly asked, heading off that avenue of thought.

“Yeah, I do.” He smiled at her.

“Promise not to tell anyone?”

“Who am I gonna tell?” She could tell he was trying not to laugh. “Okay, I promise.”

Now she was dying with embarrassment. What was she thinking? Leaning forward, she buried her head against his chest, then muttered, “I do kegels.”

She felt him stiffen. “You… eat bagels?” he asked.

She started snickering, then giggling, then laughing even harder, until he laughed along with her, lightly looping his arms around her.

“Not bagels,” she corrected, breathlessly, her cheeks hurting from smiling. “I do kegels.”

He blinked, leaning back to stare at her. “You do… kegels?” he repeated.

“When I get stressed out, or a customer pisses me off, or I get mansplained by some douchebag cosplay guy or something,” she whispered. “I just smile like Pollyanna on meth and do kegels until the desire to strangle them passes.”

He stared at her for a long moment, and she wondered if he was shocked or uncomfortable, until he started laughing, much like she had. In fact, he’d released her and was doubled over, leaning against a wall. “Oh, my God,” he said, wiping at his eye. “You are too much. Really. You are nuts.”

“Sure, laugh now,” she said, poking him in the midsection and looking up at him, her eyes bright with mischief. “But someday I’ll be a Zen monk who can bend a metal bar with her hoohah, and who’ll be laughing then, huh?”

Pages: 294
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

The Witches of Vegas are back, and their lives will never be the same again.

A year has passed since The Witches of Vegas saved the city from the evil Wiccan vampire, Valeria. Since then, the show has hit an all-time high. So has the romance between teen witch Isis Rivera and teenage magician, Zack Galloway.

Things couldn’t be any better for them until Isis develops seizures that cause her power to spiral out of control. Fires and earthquakes are just the beginning of the chaos caused by the misfired witchcraft. Meanwhile, Zack ends up face to face with the only being who may have a cure…Valeria. But does he dare pay her price?

{EXCERPT}

Isis ran back behind the wall. She then commanded the illusion of herself behind the far left wall to step through and stare out into the audience with a hand on its hip. It received a collective gasp. To them, it was as if Isis had stepped through one wall on one side of the stage, and then come out of another wall on the opposite side of the stage. She had practiced this many times, but this was the best she had ever pulled it off. It was now time to bring it home…

Whoa!

A pain ran through Isis’ chest. It felt like a mallet slamming against her heart. She tried to take a deep breath, but it was a struggle, like sucking a watermelon down her throat. An image formed in her head. It was Valeria, the Wiccan vampire who turned their lives upside down. Isis hadn’t thought about her, or the torture she endured at her hands, in a long while. Why now all of a sudden, and while her chest screamed in pain?

Isis leaned her back against the wall. Everything circled as if she were in the eye of a tornado. She had felt this sensation before, but never with such intensity. Her hands trembled. Something was happening, but she didn’t know what. “Not again, not right now.” She blinked her eyes rapidly. It’s been over a year since Valeria was in their lives. She demanded of her brain to never think of her again. Time to refocus on the now.

🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 Her Reluctant Husband by Erica Marselas

Her Reluctant Husband by Erica Marselas

Release Date: March 25th 2021
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

I would do anything for my family, including marrying a man who hates me.

Not like I had a choice when the person who helped raise me tells me who I must marry in order to save my home.

When I came face to face with Alex Wilks again, the man who despises me and wishes I never stepped foot back into Kinder Falls after the day I left, I didn’t know what I was in for.

Alex was the boy I once idolized, but later, he became the man that broke my trust.

Both of us are reluctant to dig into the lies and secrets surrounding the night that broke us apart.

Because it might end up being the truth that destroys us.

One year.

We just have to survive one year.

The only thing is, we both have so much to lose.

But maybe everything to gain.

My Review:

Her Reluctant Husband is an enemies-to-lovers second chance romance that’s full of raw emotions and twists that will grab you and never let go. Not having read any other works by Erica Marselas before, I didn’t know what to expect before the book, needless to say I was impressed with the storyline and the characters. A definite must-read!

At the beginning of the book we are introduced to June Madison, who vowed to never to return to Kinder Falls, the town who labeled her a party girl and that let her down all those years go. Having been through a traumatic experience, June had to do a lot of healing away from the town that she once called home. But it’s a death of someone that was practically family to her that brings her back to the man that she thought she’d never see again. They grew up together and she idolized him until they crossed the line and became so much more. Yet, that all ended when someone they both held dear passed living them hurt and broken. He blamed her from the start and no matter how much she tried to explain to Alex what really happened, he refused to listen leaving her vulnerable when she needed him the most.

It would take a will reading to change their lives forever, in it they must be married for a year in order to save the place they once called home or it will be sold after that year. Neither one of them wants to lose the house so they give in, but the more time they spend together the closer they get and she soon realizes that she wants to give their relationship another go. It would take a turn of events to bring them back to their past, and they’ll have to learn to forgive if they truly want to move forward.

Alex Wilks’ main focus the past five years has been his job and the possible promotion that could come from it. After losing a family member all those years ago, he vowed to stay away from Kinder Falls, a place that brought so much pain to him. Not only did he lose that family member, but the girl that he once loved. It has been years since he has seen June and to see her back again brings him so many memories about what they once had. But the hate is stronger than anything else and he can’t forgive her for what happened no matter how much he tries. Having to have her as his wife was another shock, but they both don’t want to lose the house so he gives in as well. Neither of them expected to feel the same chemistry and fire in them that keeps pulling them together. Just as he was letting his walls down, he is confronted for all those years ago, to the night that changed his life and he is shocked when he finally finds out the truth. Now he has to face his past and convince June that they belong together before it’s too late.

I throughly enjoyed reading Her Reluctant Husband, the characters are relatable and full of depth. We see the characters go through ups and downs from the beginning to the very end of the story. It’s clear that they don’t want to be near each other when they see each other again, but they slowly let their walls down and we see just how much pain they are in. They have been through so much and they can’t face the past without hurting one another. Their banter keeps them on their toes and constantly keeps pulling them together. Their is steamy scenes and full of romantic ones too. The story does focus on heavy topics and there is a trigger warning at the beginning of the story. The author handles it very well and we do get a resolution at the end. The ending was sweet and I do wish we had another epilogue, but it still comes full circle and nicely concludes their story. I would highly recommend it!

**I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.**

My Rating: 4.5/5

Author’s note:

{EXCERPT}

I had a suspicion that my magic faded with age, like estrogen, draining youth and power from my body, turning me into an old crone soaked in wine, and leaving me with an excessive amount of bitter baggage. At least, that was how I felt at thirty-one, past my prime. I’d stupidly wasted my youth on a man who put off marrying me for so long, only to dump me at the altar and banish me from his life and his kingdom, all in a matter of minutes.

I groaned, settling down onto a tree stump caked with a questionable fungus. The drizzle of rain dissolved into a mist, wrapping around me in a blanket of wet gloom and matching my mood. Anger bubbled inside me like a cauldron of witch’s brew, ready to explode and destroy its next victim.

Could this be early menopause? I thought with a sudden pang of panic.

“Ahem,” I cleared my throat and shook the thought from my head, determined to focus on something I’d not tried yet—the darker creatures of the forest.

My spells usually involved singing birds, cuddly bunnies, and doe-eyed deer. But there was one time, a while back, I’d accidentally summoned a rabid alligator. Of course, I’d hidden up in a tree until he left, but I always wondered if my charms could be used for more than sweet, princessy qualities, as my ex used to put it. You know, those things I’d lost when I became a worthless humanish bag of bones.

“Fa-la-la-la, rawr, la-la-la,” I tried, bellowing out the lowest spooky tone I could.

But nothing happened.

“I said, fa-la-la-la, rawr, la-la-la!” I screamed into the clearing, but only the windswept leaves echoed back.

I scuffed my boot into the dirt, kicking a pebble across the way before taking a deep breath and trying again.

“La-la-la, rawr, la-la-la.” My voice rang out as it had years ago when my magic was strong and powerful enough to command an army of squirrels, nibbling the ankles of all my enemies.

A blanket of clouds thickened overhead, forming a sinister chill in the air. The hair on the back of my neck prickled. I had a feeling I wasn’t alone anymore.

“La-la-la, rawr, la-la-la,” I sang again, louder.

Footsteps, much heavier than a bunny’s, pattered behind me. I stood up and threw my hands in the air, still singing and ignoring the feeling of someone watching me. I twirled, singing in harmony with the wind in the trees, the drizzle of rain, and the low hum of the clouds growing overhead. My senses awakened to the natural life around me, and for the first time in a year, I felt whole again.

I spun around the clearing, singing my heart out and skipping through the mud until—as my luck would have it—a man, not a beastly creature under my command, walked into my life.

“You rang,” said a deep voice behind me.

I turned to see a tall, dark figure stepping out of the shadows. His mouth curled, as if on the edge of laughter, displaying a glimpse of two deadly sharp fangs.

“Holy shit. I summoned a vampire.” I stood frozen, unable to look away.

🔖 BLOG TOUR 🔖 Mafia Bride by C.D. Reiss {REVIEW}

Mafia Bride by C.D. Reiss

Release Date: March 16th 2021
Genres: Arranged Marriage/Mafia Romance

An epic mafia romance trilogy that sets a new bar for just how dark a hero can get, from NY Times Bestselling author CD Reiss.

Some girls dream of marrying a prince, but I never imagined I’d be sold to a king.

Santino DiLustro.

The king.

The monster.

The keeper of secrets.

When he forced me to marry him, I cried for love I’d never know.

When he locked me away, I cried for the freedom I lost forever.

Every other tear I’ve shed is for my soul, because I’m falling for the devil himself.

My Review:

C.D. Reiss has completely outdone herself with Mafia Bride. It was such a steamy, dark and full of secrets Italian mafia romance will have you hooked from beginning to end. A great start to the DiLustro Arrangement Trilogy.

At the beginning of the story we get to meet Violetta Moretti, a nursing student who can’t wait to go on her summer vacation with her friend, Scarlett. Ever since she arrived from Italy as a five-year-old orphan, Violetta hasn’t left the country at all. She is thankful to have the support of her aunt and uncle that have worked so hard to be able to send her away for the summer. Yet, it doesn’t matter where she lives because the town where she lives now is still very much old school. In Secondo Vastro, no one speaks of who runs the town as the mob makes the world go around. There are whispers that a daughter is dealt to a capo for a debt. Violetta never imaged herself to be in that position until she finds out that she just got sold to the king, Santino DiLustro.

She was just twelve when she last saw him and she hasn’t forgotten about him ever since. He has consumed her dreams, but when they do meet again he gives her a bad impression that she does’t want to see him again. It’s when Santino comes back for her that her life truly changes forever, he is ready to make her his queen and won’t accept no for an answer. Violetta might be married to a ruthless mafia boss, but the more time she spends with him the more she finds herself wanting to give their marriage a chance. It’s when she discovers the secrets that Santino has been keeping from her that world begins to crumble down.

Santino DiLustro knew that Violetta was for him the minute he laid eyes on her, but it has been years since they’ve seen each other in person. There is no way of knowing how she is going to react when he tells her that he has come to make her his wife. By marrying Violetta, she will become a target to those that want to hurt him and he cannot show weakness by falling in love. Yet, Violetta doesn’t know the whole truth and it’s only a matter of time before she finds why he picked her.

I absolutely loved the set up of the story and the characters. Santino is such a ruthless man who exudes power and control. He knows what he wants and is not afraid it get it. He meets his match with Violetta, who is not afraid to back down and she challenges him from the very beginning. She speaks her mind, but she also knows the danger that she is in and quickly makes up a plan in order to stay alive. Even though Santino has proven that he will never hurt her, she quickly realizes that he will give his life for her and she stars to feel safe with him. She slowly starts to learn about him and about his life in Italy that they start to get close. There are so many things that she doesn’t know about his world that when she finds out what he has been keeping from her that truly shocks her. With that said, the story does end in a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read what happens next. If you are looking for a great mafia read, I would highly recommend checking out Mafia Bride, you will not regret it! :)

Piper

Most people don’t think about the day they’ll die. They coast through life, blissfully unaware of how their time is ticking away. I wasn’t like most people. I welcomed death, wanted her to take me away from the prison I called life, but she refused. I tried twice only to survive. And then, when I thought I had nothing left it came.

A reason to live.

Rex was a small, unexpected ray of light in my world of darkness that blossomed into a beam of sunshine. I thought, maybe this was why Death didn’t take me. Maybe she knew that if I held on a little longer things would turn around. But the third time Death came to my door wasn’t by choice. Someone else brought her, and I fear this time she might take me.

Rex

Being the son of a country star sucks. My parents are never around, I move every year or so, and I have no real friends. Everyone around me has an agenda. Everyone except Piper Lovelace. I can’t get that girl to notice me. Trust me I’ve tried.

Thankfully, fate stepped in and gave me the break I needed. I’ve got her attention, now I need her to give me a chance.

Meet Bailey B:

Bailey B is an up and coming New Adult author. She lives in Lehigh Acres Florida with her husband, twin girls, and two fur babies. She enjoys (but doesn't get to take part in because of her crazy daughters) the simple things like Disney+ binge watching, Netflix romcoms, reading and sleeping. We’re standing in the wings, waiting to go back onstage, and Hayden asks, “Are you okay, Gabriel?”

“Yeah, as good as I can be, I guess,” I tell him and shrug my shoulders.

“I know the last half of the album sucks for you.” He gives me a wry smile.

“Understatement of the year, right there,” I laugh. “Just one more song to go, anyway. Then the meet and greet, and then hibernation.”

“Bring on the hibernation,” Harrison grins at me.

We head back out onstage for the encore, and the audience cheers loudly.

“I can’t thank you all enough for coming out tonight,” I tell the crowd.

They scream again, and I wait for the crowd to quiet down before continuing.

“I wrote a lot of Heart Wide Open while I was”—I pause and make an exaggerated thinking pose with my finger tapping on my cheek—“man, how would you describe it?”

“Angry,” Hayden says into his mic. “Very, very angry.”

I almost laugh because I wasn’t actually expecting anyone to chime in, but I fake an enlightened tone, as though he’s just given me the answer to my question and say, “Ah, yes, that’s it. Thanks, Hayden.”

“Any time, bro,” Hayden replies.

The audience laughs at our playful banter, and I laugh along with them before continuing, “So, yeah, I was very angry for a long time. What I discovered, though, is that you can’t hold onto that anger forever, or it will eat you alive. When you eventually let it go, sometimes you’ll be surprised by what’s left behind.”

I smile at the crowd, and despite my inner turmoil this evening, I’m at peace with everything. I’ve accepted that she couldn’t be with me, even though it still occasionally hurts.

The crowd cheers as Sebastian starts playing his guitar, with Hayden playing a soft beat on the drums and Harrison playing a bass line. They repeat the same eight bars of music as I continue my explanation of the song.

AUTHOR BIO:

Hi, I’m Sian Ceinwen and I live in Western Australia with my husband and two kids. I started writing this in the third person but it was just odd. A little bit about me, I’ve enjoyed writing all my life, getting the worlds and characters in my head down for other people to enjoy is my passion.

Writing a book wasn’t something I ever thought I could really do but inspired by a song, I aimed to do it. With a lot of coaxing from my friends for me to finish it so they could find out the ending.

I released Gabriel and Ariana’s story, The Album, on March 14th, 2020. Harrison and Heather’s story, The Wedding, came out on June 6th, 2020. Sebastian and Lita’s book, The Baby, was released on November 18th, 2020.

The first book in the companion series, Gabriel’s Album, is available for pre-order and will be released on March 14th, 2021. It’s Gabriel and Ariana’s story retold from Gabriel’s point of view.

I hope that you will fall in love with the Cruise Control world the same way that I have.
