A sexy, swoony falling-for-the-neighbor standalone romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lauren Blakely!
Just my luck - my new next door neighbor is a unicorn.
Yep, the British hottie is clearly a mythical man because - get this - he's a sexy, witty, charming, big-hearted single dad.
Who, wait for it, wants to find Mrs. Right and get hitched.
He’s a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of man, and it’s a darn shame I’m not on the market. If I were, his accent alone would melt me. Add in the fact that he's a veterinarian, and my animal-loving heart would be flip flopping.
But my heart's on the mend. I'm a single parent like him, and raising my teenage daughter is my top priority. Plus, falling for a guy who shares your property line is a line you shouldn’t cross.
Still, I'm an outgoing gal, so I do the neighborly thing and offer to be his dating insider.
Surely, I can help this small town’s most eligible bachelor ever navigate his way through all the fantastic single ladies eager to make his acquaintance.
What could possibly go wrong in helping the dream guy next door find his one true love?
So I set him up on one date, two dates, three dates -- and I’m about to find out exactly how dangerous my offer is.
My Review:
At the beginning of the story we get to meet January, a carpenter living in a small town of Duck Falls, a town where the female population just seems to keep outgrowing the male population. Everyone knows everyone, so word quickly spreads out about a new resident moving to town. No one knows who the newcomer really is, other than the fact that he is straight, single and male. This gets all the ladies in town really interested to find out more about him, but it’s until January finds out that she has a new neighbor that things start to get interesting. While the whole town is ready to meet her new neighbor, she definitely isn’t. She is happily single and not in the market to be in a relationship. Her new business is staring to take off and she is happy to just be with her teenage daughter, Wednesday.
It’s when she sees him for the first time and hears his sexy British accent that her heart swells. He is extremely attractive and kind to his son, Ethan. Yet, no matter how many good qualities he might have, January is set to not fall for her new neighbor. She has been through an unhappy relationship in the past and now that she is divorced she is ready to focus on her business full-time. She quickly finds out that they have a lot in common and she enjoys spending time with him. When Liam tells her that he is ready to find the one, things begin to change and she has to make a choice of wether or not to change what she wants in order to be with him or let him go for good.
Leaving New York wasn’t entirely by choice, yet Liam Harris is determined to make things work in Duck Falls. Having had a great practice in the city as a veterinarian, Liam developed a lot of relationships with his clients and he had to mentally prepare himself to start a new chapter in his life. This time he isn’t alone, he is taking Ethan, a son he didn’t even know he had until three years ago. A lot of things are changing in his life and starting a new chapter also means starting a new relationship as well. He is ready to settle down and his attractive neighbor is ready to help him find Mrs. Right. It’s the more time he spends with January that he wishes he could go out on date with her not with anyone else. But she knows what she wants and it’s not a relationship, which makes her off-limits. There is a pull that neither of them can deny and it’s when they cross the path of no return that they are forced to reevaluate what they really want in order to have future together.
I throughly enjoyed reading The Dream Guy Next Door, it was relatable and sweet. They both have this instant chemistry that kept pulling them together from the very beginning. But that soon becomes the problem because they want different things for their future. While Liam is ready to settle down, January isn’t. What makes them work is that Liam knows that January’s business means a lot to her and respects her decision. Neither of them wants to change each other’s minds about what they want, but they have do think about they are willing to change in order to make things work. I loved Liam’s relationship with his son. He missed on a lot of years of Ethan growing up and that plays a huge role of what he wants in the future. Meanwhile, January had a very long relationship that wasn’t fulfilling and now that she can do what wants, she is willing to give it her all and her daughter is just as sarcastic as her mom, it’s really cute. All in all, the book was great read and the ending was perfect for the story. I would highly recommend checking it out, I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
