Beneath the Stars by A.L. Jackson

Release Date: February 22nd 2021 by A.L. Jackson Books Inc.
Pages: 475
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

From NYT and USA Today bestselling author A.L. Jackson comes a friends-to-lovers romance about an unattainable rockstar and his best friend’s younger sister…

Maggie Fitzgerald is the last girl I should think about taking to my bed.

On the cusp of turning 21, she has her whole life waiting out ahead of her. Sexy AF while still radiating an innocence that I know better than to taint.

And here I am, itching to reach out and touch a girl who is so forbidden that just thinking about her feels like committing a mortal sin.

Thing is, I love playing with fire.

Rhys Manning is everything I shouldn’t want.

Country-rock’s newest superstar.

Fun. Wild. Ready to show the world a good time.

He’s so off-limits it isn’t even funny.

So out of reach he might as well be a poster tacked on my wall.

Too bad every time he looks at me, my heart races out of control.

Now, I’m stuck living with him for the entire summer…

We’re only supposed to be friends. Still, I should have known it was a terrible idea when I started sneaking into his room. Especially when it’s clear he’s keeping secrets.

Secrets that might destroy us both.

One touch, and I want more.

One kiss, and I’m spiraling out of control.

I know it’s reckless to start dancing in the flames.

But in exchange for getting to spend one night with this brooding bad boy? I might be willing to get burned…

My Review:

A.L. Jackson knows a how to deliver great stories full of depth and raw emotions. Beneath the Stars was no different, this friends-to-lovers romance is about second chances at love and new beginnings that will leave you wanting for more.

We are introduced to Maggie Fitzgerald and Rhys Manning in previous books in the series and they’re finally getting their own story. Rhys is the bassist of Caroline George, an up-and-coming country band who is gaiting a lot of momentum and they’re hoping to make a it big with the upcoming collaboration with A Riot of Roses. On the outside, Rhys’ life looks promising and full of potential. But no matter how his life might look, on the inside he is full of guilt and his past keeps haunting him no matter how much he tries to move on with his life. To make things worse, he can’t seem to take his mind of Maggie Fitzgerald, Royce’s little sister and band member of A Riot of Roses. It’s when the two bands decide to go to Savannah for the summer in order to record their new album that things start to change between him and Maggie. He is there for her when she needs him the most and as the two start to learn more about their pasts, the more he wants to protect her from any harm. Until new obstacles come their way, that their lives change forever.

Maggie Fitzgerald has been through a lot of turmoil in her life and she is ready to move on from her past. At 21 yrs old, she is ready to experience everything the world has to offer, yet there is something that she wants that she can’t seem to have. Rhys Manning is older than her, attractive and completely off-limits as he one of her brother’s best friends. Their chemistry is undeniable when they are together, but she knows that things can’t go any further. That is until they can’t deny their feelings for each other that things begin to change. He is it for her and Maggie knows that they need to face their pasts in order to start a future together.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Beneath the Stars, it got me hooked from beginning to end. There was so much growth in the characters, especially in Rhys. When we meet him at the beginning, he is angry, hurt and full of guilt for his past that makes it difficult for him to move on. He is constantly reminded of all the love that he grew up in that quickly vanished after a tragic accident that shaped how he views love. On the other hand, Maggie grew up in a well of family that didn’t show much love to her at all. Then she goes through a tragic event in her life and ever since they she has been trying to make things right in order to move on. She understands the pain that Rhys is going through and that’s what keeps pulling them closer. The age gap between them plays a major factor in their relationship as well as the fact that Maggie’s older brother happens to be one of Rhys’ best friends. It’s just when things start to work out for them that a new obstacle comes their way, threatening everything that they’ve accomplished and their future together. There is so much suspense sprinkled throughout the book and the shocking twists of events at the end had me at the edge of my seat. It was nice to see previous characters making cameos in the book and the sweet ending will leave you emotional, it’s just that good! I would highly recommend checking out this book as well as the rest of the series. :)

**I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.**
