Money. Status. Wealth. Power.
I believed I was entitled to all of it.
My legacy.

Jolie Chapman.
I thought I was entitled to her, too.
My love.

In a scandal that set our families against each other, I lost.
My legacy. My love.
Everything.

I was heir to a throne built on lies, my crown forged from corruption.
Stripped of everything I'd been raised to consider my birthright.
Including my princess—who wasn’t mine, after all.

I’ve spent the past decade rebuilding my life, on my own terms.
Money. Status. Wealth. Power.
They’ve been earned.
Now I’ve returned to Manhattan for redemption, too.

Jolie wasn’t supposed to be here.
… And I wasn’t supposed to care.

Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice—
Who am I kidding? I don’t believe in second chances anymore.

My Review:

From the cover to the synopsis, Legacy of Lies had me hooked from beginning to end. As the second and last part in the Legacy of Lies duet series, Tara Leigh continues Tripp and Jolie’s story.

It has been ten years since the scandal that torned their families apart and after grieving the lose of her love, Jolie Chapman has moved back to New York after leaving all those years ago. After becoming a successful model and traveling the world, Jolie has decided to move back to the city that ended her family’s legacy to start her own jewelry line.

With the help of her step-mother, Nina, she is able to get funding for her business but it is because of what happened that she has trouble trusting others and that’s how Jolie ends up hiring someone to look into her future investor. She reaches out to RiskTaker where she gets in contact with Lance Welles and after ten years she is finally able to get to know someone and feel a bit of hope. She can’t wait to talk to him again, but that all changes when she sees Tripp again. There are a lot of thoughts that go through her head, but she can see that the chemistry that they once had never left and she wants him though she shouldn’t.

For Tripp Montgomery, the past ten years have been all about building his own fortune and empire. After what happened with the Chapmans, he fled New York for California in order to start RiskTaker. Now he is able to expose embezzlers, thieves, and the criminally incompetent just like his father. But it is his very own wealth that takes him back to the city where it all began and that’s how he ends up back in New York. Yet, there is something else that he wants the minute he finds out that Jolie is also in the city and that is revenge and he will not stop until he straighten things out with Jolie.

Needless to say, his plan goes out the window the minute he sees Jolie for the first time in ten years and the more time he spends with her the more he wants to keep her. But little did he know that their lives were about to change after a secret gets revealed, one that could either bring them together or pull them apart.

I loved reading the prequel so much that I couldn’t wait to this book right after. It was a rollercoaster of emotions from beginning to end. These two characters haven’t seen each other in ten years and so much has happened since the scandal. They both have their own lives and New York is what brings them together once again. There is so much that the characters need to overcome as they get closer once again, from secrets to lies. Yet, there is still so much sizzling chemistry between them that kept me reading non stop until the very end. Now, it is told in duel POVs which made the story that much more interesting to read. The only thing that kept me from giving this book a 5 star rating was the ending, it felt a bit rushed for me. I wish the author could have elaborated on some parts in the end just to make it that much better. All in all, this story was truly swoon worthy and definitely worth picking up! :)

Throne of Lies (Legacy of Lies 0.5 - Prequel Novella)

My Review:

Throne of Lies is the prequel to Legacy of Lies (Book 1) by Tara Leigh. This novella takes back ten years to where it all began in Tripp and Jolie’s story. Though short, this story truly packs a punch as it lays out how it all truly started in their relationship.

At seventeen, Jolie Chapman is a senior in high school and a Park Avenue Princess whose wealth is well known in New York. As the daughter of a prominent Wall Street investor, she needs to look the part and that means being seen by New York’s society at the upcoming debutante ball. This ultra exclusive event is what everyone is talking about, but Jolie is not as thrilled to attend. When she finds out that her escort/date is non other than her father’s partner’s son, she doesn’t know what to expect. It has been a while since she has seen Remington (Tripp) Montgomery and she is not looking forward to seeing in at the ball. But that soon changes when she sees him and she is fascinated by him.

At nineteen, Tripp is a university student who hopes to follow his father’s footsteps at the firm and attending the debutante ball is the last thing he wants to do. He accepts to go with Jolie out of petty, but everything changes the minute he laid eyes on her and he can’t wait to make her his. It’s evident that their chemistry is undeniable and neither of them expected to hit it of right away. But that soon changes when their fathers’ empire starts to fall apart and they get caught in the middle of it all.

I truly enjoyed reading Throne of Lies, it was sweet and romantic. It was great seeing their relationship blossom and how well they fit together. They are in the same game together and they understand each other better than anyone else could. Being the heirs to a billion-dollar company has put a lot of pressure on them and it they are able to be themselves around each other. Yet, every family has secrets and this one might just end up hurting their relationship in the end. Told in duel POVs, this swoon worthy novella will definitely leave you wanting for more. I would highly recommend checking it out as well as the next book, Legacy of Lie. You will not regret it! <3
