✯BOOK BLITZ:✯ Withering Hope by Layla Hagen {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

 Withering Hope by Layla Hagen

Release Date: January 18th 2015 by Layla Hagen
Pages: 262
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect.

But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits her—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

With no way to reach civilisation, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts.

As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest.

Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love.

Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

Purchase: Amazon, B&N, iBooks, Kobo

{EXCERPT}

(Aimee’s POV)

"Just stay with for a little while, please. I need you so much, Aimee." The sound of my name from his mouth awakens something in me that has me writhing in a blazing torture. It’s doing things to me it shouldn't do.

"Shh, okay. I'll stay. I know it helps having someone."

"Not someone. You. You make the memories bearable, the present better. You have an unbelievably strong will to keep going, even if you don't know where you're heading, hoping you'll find something worthy at the end of the road. You have an inherent ability to pick up the good on the way—those that give you strength, the happy things, like your poems—and you go on. You pass that strength onto others, even if it costs you sleep and peace.

“I used to hate waking up every morning. Now I look forward to every day, even though we're stuck in this place. Because it means one more day with you." He caresses my lips with his thumb. I open my mouth, but he shakes his head. "Don't say anything, please."

For a long moment, we are silent, our gazes locked. I breathe in his hot breaths, tension crackling in the short distance between our lips. Then he pulls me into a kiss. The touch of his lips on mine electrifies me, shimmer after shimmer coursing through my nerve endings. His tongue takes mine in a primal claim. Icy shivers splinter my skin, and at the same time, fire awakens deep within me. I've never been kissed like this. Ferociously, with absolute, desperate need. I try to temper the heated emotions building inside me. I try to remember it's wrong. But that fleeting thought is drowned by the heat igniting his lips and hands, and I surrender. Tristan deepens the kiss until I'm out of breath. I become aware of his hard chest muscles, of every line and every ridge, as my hands roam wildly with a greed I don't recognize. His hands graze my body, traveling from my back to my thighs, spreading the fire in my center; I'm convinced it will consume me. With a jolt, he pulls me even closer to him, so I'm all but straddling him. His fingers fumble with my hair, as his blessed mouth cradles mine, coaxing a whimper from me.

MY REVIEW:

Broken Down is about pain, loss, and new beginnings.

At the beginning of the book we get to meet Shane Jones, Thieves' guitarist, whose recent accidents have completely changed his life. After the passing of his friend/band mate and brother, Shane doesn't know what else to do with his life. Ever since his friend died in an accident he would always turn to his friend with benefits, Krista Conner. Their connection is what helped him when he was going through some rough times. Yet, even though their sex life was great, he knew that he wasn't ready for a real relationship like Krista was. So they parted ways, but as the fame started to grow for his band, the pressure ended up killing his brother. Now Shane is ready to make a change in his life, and he wants Krista in it for the long run. As he sets on to go to Portland for a few weeks, his mission is to make Krista understand that he is willing to give them a shot at a real relationship and that he is not going anywhere.

Right when Krista met Shane it was exciting and surreal. He was not only a handsome guy, but he also happened to be in a famous band. When the two became friends things slowly started to change for her. When his friend passed away it changed their relationship, they became friends with benefits, and when she wanted something more out of their relationship, Shane pushed her away. Feeling completely devastated, Krista moves to Portland where she works as a freelance web designer. But just as she was starting to move on, Shane comes back into her life and this time she wants to make sure that her heart is protected or she will never be able to move on from another heartache.

It's evident from the very beginning that both of the characters have struggled to move on in their lives. Not only do they have pasts that have hurt them, but they also have hurt each other when they were together. Shane is not your typical rock star, he doesn't like the media attention and he kind to others. He truly wants to change his life, and he is willing to give anything to get that. On the other hand, Krista has been just as hurt. She has a past that she hasn't really been able to move on from, and when she meets Shane she wants to start a relationship with him. I liked the story, the author did a good job with twists and turns that I was expecting when I was reading the book. There were some scenes that felt unnecessary, but it all ties together in the end. There is character development that changes over the course of the story and as the characters learn to move on we get to meet other secondary characters that made the story that much more interesting to read. Overall, if you're looking for a romance story filled with twists and steamy scenes than I would highly recommend this story. : )

MY RATING:

AUTHOR BIO:

When she’s not plotting ways to sneak her latest shoe purchase past her partner, Amanda writes sexy, snarky romance and urban fantasy. She likes her heroines smart and unafraid to make mistakes, and her heroes strong enough to take them on. If she’s not writing, she’s reading, drinking hot chocolate, and trying not to destroy her house with her newest DIY project. She lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and no, it really doesn’t rain that much.
