My Review:

Not having read any of the previous books in the Summer Sisters series, I didn’t know what to expect in terms of the family dynamics and how this books was going to play out. Needless to say, I was really impressed with how well Lacey Black executed this book. My Kinda Player was such an entertaining and romantic that will make you wanting for more.

From the start we get to meet AJ Summer, an eight grade math teacher who is getting ready to get back to work after having a good summer with her sisters. There is a tradition that keep the six sisters closer and that is that on the first Saturday of each month one of them has to plan something different each time they meet. This gives them time to catch up with each other and learn what’s new in their lives. They tell each other everything which makes their bond that much stronger and they all know about the very brief summer fling that AJ had with a sexy stranger that she met at a bar. She was taken by his blue eyes and chemistry, but the minute they go to his hotel things turn differently than what she had expected. AJ woke up the next morning with him gone and she decides to forget about him. Little did she know that the next day she was going to stumble across the stranger at her school claiming to be the new PE teacher. With every reason now to stay away from him and keep things professional, there is something about Sawyer that keeps her coming back to him and that could end up hurting her in the end.

Sawyer Randall never expected to go back to Virginia after having lived in Texas for a while, but his life has taken a different turn and now he is ready to make a change. After hurting himself at a baseball game, Sawyer had to endure all the months in rehab and surgeries that ultimately ended his career as a pro baseball player. Wanting to get away from the spotlight, he decided to go back to Virginia and start a new job (though he has no need for one due to all those years playing pro). Now Sawyer is the new PE teacher and baseball coach at a local junior high and he is loving every minute of it. What he wasn’t expecting to meet again is AJ and to his surprise they both work at the same place now. He remembers her very well and the immediate attraction that he had towards her makes him want to be with her again. His career as a baseball player might have ended, but he is not about to let her go without given them a chance.

I very much liked the chemistry that the two characters have throughout the book. Family is important in the story and as the two meet each other’s family they start to get even closer. AJ’s family is huge as we get to learn more about her hilarious grandparents and sisters. We get to also learn more about Sawyer and AJ’s past. It’s evident that both of them have been hurt and as they start a new life they start to realize just how perfect they are for each other. What I really loved about Sawyer was the cute notes that he would leave on AJ’s desk every morning. He is a total romantic who knows how to woo a woman. The ending was sweet and well set. The author did a great job trying the ending with the epilogue that gives us clues on what’s to come in the series. I highly recommend reading My Kinda Player, it will not disappoint!:)

“Are you blind?! What kinda call was that?” AJ hollers at the ump behind home plate while the crowd around us boos and screams their frustration at the horrible call.

“Dude, your girl is vicious. Remind me not to get on her bad side,” Dylan mumbles to me as we watch AJ rant at the umpire.

“No shit,” I reply, shocked that such harsh words just came from my sweet little schoolteacher’s mouth. “It’s kinda hot, though.”

“Definitely,” my brother replies quietly. “Did you see how many hotdogs she ate?”

“More than you.”

“More than you and me combined, bro. A woman who looks like that, talks like a sailor, and can hold her own in a hotdog eating contest? Marry her, dude.”

I snort in reply, merely because I’m afraid if I open up my mouth right now, I might actually propose. If I was falling in love with this woman before today, well, seeing her in my element, trash talking, and burping warm beer has pretty much sealed the deal for me. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’ve fallen head over heels in love with AJ Summer.

“Can you believe that call? What kinda horseshit is that? A blind monkey humping a football could have seen the tag! He was out by a mile,” she seethes, her eyes burning with fire and passion.

“I saw,” I tell her, wrapping my arm around her shoulders and pulling her into my side. “Horrible call.”

“The worst,” she grumbles.

“You’re scaring the big burly guys behind us, honey,” I tease.

She glances over her shoulder at my words. “You mean Bill and Tom? Shit, who do you think taught me those bad words?” she asks, making me laugh. “They really appreciated the autographs, though,” she adds. As soon as the Rangers fans sat down behind us before the game started, they recognized me and started chatting. I signed a few autographs for them and a handful for others in the vicinity.

My Review:

Not having read any other books by Lacey Black before, I was really impressed with Entwined. Not only was the story sweet and steamy, but the characters were also well thought out until the very end. From the very beginning we get to meet Luke, after being in the FBI he founded a company with his brother in the security business. But his life as a playboy comes to a halt when he sees the girl that left him ten years ago, the very same girl who took a piece of him right before leaving town after they graduated high school. Now she is back in Las Vegas and he will not stop at nothing to get her back no matter what. 

Sidney never wanted to come back to Las Vegas, after leaving ten years ago she promised herself that she was going to stay away, but after he father passed away she had to no choice but to come back in order to protect her father's legacy. Little did she know that she was going to stumble across the guy who took her heart all those years ago. Now she has to face Luke and all of those feelings that she still has for him. But as the two begin to come to terms with their feelings, there are things that might just end up destroying what they have before they even begin to think of a happily-ever-after. 

I really enjoyed reading Luke and Sidney's story, it's one that you instantly fall in love with just because it's sweet and full of steamy scenes. The beginning of the story is one that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the very end. It's evident that that they have chemistry even as seventeen-years old, and it progressively grows the longer they are apart. Sidney's life gets put on hold the minute she comes back to Las Vegas, she knows that her life is going to be the same until she leaves again. Yet the minute she sees Luke, everything changes and she makes it her mission to make things work this time around. On the other hand, Luke is a total swoon worthy character, he is not only protective of Sidney but he is also sweet and very flirtatious. The more time they spend together things start to come up and they have to figure out how to fix them in order for them to have a future. We get to meet a lot of characters in the story that made it even more enjoyable to read, and the ending really tied everything together very well. Overall, I would highly recommend giving this book a try, you will not regret it. I will most certainly be reading more from the author in the future. ;)

Luke

10 years ago

“So, I’m sure you see why I think we should break up, right? I mean, we’re both heading off to college soon, and I want to experience everything that college life has to offer.”

I gape at Jessica, my girlfriend for the past five months. Wants to experience everything? That’s code for ‘wants to sleep around.’ I’m a dude. I know.

“And you just had to do this tonight?” I ask, looking back at the doorway that leads inside my house. The same house where my entire family and a good amount of my friends are gathered to celebrate my high school graduation.

“Well, I just thought it was best to cut the cord now, you know? Like…just do it.”

“Whatever, Jess. If you want to break up now, that’s fine.”

“Really?” she asks, twirling her long brown hair around her pointer finger. “You’re gonna be okay?” She gives me those big brown, puppy dog eyes that won over my heart–and my dick–during Christmas break.

I’ve known this moment was coming since I started dating Jessica. I didn’t see anything long-term developing with her. Call me an asshole, but I knew she was just someone to help me pass the time during my final year of high school. But I also knew going into this that she felt the same way. I guess, in a way, we both used each other to keep ourselves company until we moved on to the next stage in our lives.

“I’m going to be fine, Jess. We both knew it was coming to this eventually, right?”

She continues to twirl her hair around her fingers. Why had I never noticed how fucking annoying that was? “Listen, we had a great time. If you’re ever in the Seattle area, look me up, ‘kay? We can maybe spend some time together for ol’ times’ sake.” Her smile tells me exactly what her comment means. She’s looking to hook up again if I’m ever close to where she’s attending college.

“Maybe,” I reply with a shrug.

As much fun as I’ve had with Jess in the last few months, I don’t see myself reaching out to her anytime in the future. The sex has always been all right, but nothing I see myself driving upwards of eighteen hours to get. There’s plenty of mediocre ass left in Vegas if I’m that desperate for a hook up. And, honestly, as an eighteen-year-old red-blooded male on the verge of experiencing college life, I’m pretty sure I’ll have no problem moving forward from here.

“Bye, Luke. It’s been fun,” she says before placing her full lips against mine. The kiss is brief, closed mouth, and lacks the usual tongue and groping we generally partake in. This kiss is goodbye.

I watch as she walks away, heading around the side of the house so she doesn’t have to go back the way she came; where my entire family celebrates. Gazing out over the darkened backyard, it’s not lost on me that there’s no going back from here. That I’m finally leaving the only home I’ve ever known. I’ve graduated high school, will start UNLV in a couple of months, and will finally be out from under the controlling thumb of my mother. Ever since I was younger, Blake and I chalked it up to me being the baby of the family for her ever-present hovering and involvement in my life.

It’s time for me to grow up and experience life.

And I’m starting it without a girlfriend.

The slightest sound of something thumping against wood pulls my attention away from the emptiness of night and towards the small fort in the back corner of the yard. Built ten years ago out of pieces of scrap wood we’d find around the neighborhood, the fort was my brother’s and my escape from the house. We’d spend hours upon hours in that thing, playing with GI Joes, having Nerf gun wars, and when we were older, sneaking off to steal our first kisses.

But I know the noise coming from inside isn’t from my brother. There’s only one person who still uses that fort: our neighbor, Sidney.
