✯REVIEW & EXCERPT TOUR!✯ Blood Type by K.A. Linde

Blood Type by K.A. Linde

Release Date: April 24th 2018 by Loveswept
Series: Blood Type #1
Genres: Romance, Paranormal

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.

Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked faรงade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.

For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.

Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

My Review:

Having read Linde’s more contemporary romance books before, I didn’t know what to expect of Blood Type, but I was impressed with with the overall story. Being the first book in the Blood Type series, we are introduced to the main characters Reyna Carpenter and Beckham Anderson as they go through a series of events to be together.

Now this was a very interesting read, the setting itself was different from any other book that I’ve read in the past and for that I applaud the author for taking the setting outside the box. This book is set in a dystopian world where vampires co-exist with humans, yet they are ones who hold the ultimate power.

At the beginning of the book we get to meet twenty-one-year old Reyna Carpenter, as she makes her way to the hospital facility of Visage Incorporated. The company is the largest in the world and it specializes in what they call body employment services (who Reyna calls blood escorts). These individuals who are in need of money will in some cases visit Visage to become blood donors for vampires.

In this world there are various districts where the economy is really bad and technology is not advanced. Reyna happens to live in The Warehouse District where any technology from cellphones to cars weren’t available to most people. It is for this case that Reyna has taken upon herself to provide for her brothers any way she can and that’s how she decides to become a blood escort. But she is offered to be in a new program, one where she will be staying with the sponsor permanently and that’s when the story truly takes off. Her sponsor is non other than Beckham Anderson, Senior Vice President of Visage Incorporated and as the two start to get to know each other the more she starts to like him. Yet, there are matters that could get complicated and a new law is about to threaten any kind of future they might to have with each other.

As VP of Visage Incorporated, Beckham Anderson enjoys its advantages and he is more than willing to take on a blood escort. But never expected to meet Reyna and like her. She is not just any blood donor to him, and he soon starts to do little things to make her happy while she is living in his penthouse. Though their sexual chemistry is there, he refuses to give up control and will not feed off her either. As they spend more time together, there more he wants to be with her but there is a new law that could end up pulling them apart.

I wish the story didn’t end with a cliffhanger, but it does and from the ending it looks like the second book is going to be great as well. The characters are total opposites who somehow work together really well. Reyna is determined to get any job in order to provide for her family even if it means risking her life/freedom. On the other hand, Beckham is more mysterious and keeps to himself a lot. There are little things that he does for Reyna that charmed her and she felt comfortable around him pretty quickly. We do get to find out why they’re the way they are as we get to learn more about their pasts. The ending had me freaking out, I really want to read the next book already! What I didn’t like as much was how easily Beck kept playing with Reyna’s feelings and how many chances she gave him. It was frustrating at times, but it somehow worked at the end of the book. If there is one thing that I thought of when I finished reading the book was of the movie, Daybreakers, it has a similar plot line minus all the romance. I really enjoyed reading something different from K.A. Linde, it was a good start to the series which I highly recommend checking out! :D

{EXCERPT}

That was the moment Beckham appeared in the doorway like a storm cloud.

Reyna straightened in her seat at the expression on his face. He walked across the room like a tightly coiled spring ready to explode.

“Ah Beckham, there you are,” Harrington said.

“Excuse me, William. I need to speak with Reyna. Alone.”

She hastened out of her seat and followed him around the corner. He tugged her straight through the kitchens, out the back door, down a corridor, and into a dead end. Then her back was slammed against the brick wall. His fist connected with the wall behind her, and she felt the wall shudder. Debris floated onto her shoulders.

“You left,” he growled.

“I . . .”

“No.” He pressed his finger to her lips roughly. She stopped breathing and just stared up into his eyes as dark as night. Her body trembled under the feral stare. “You left without me.”

The silence was weighted. All she could do was sit with their bodies nearly touching. His finger on her mouth. Her mind wandering to hellacious places.

“You are my subject. Can you imagine what it was like when I found you missing? When you turned up with three of my kind?” She shook her head minutely. He bared his teeth to her, and she shrank back. “These are meant to drink your blood. To drink you dry until there is nothing left of your body but a dry corpse. We are killers. We don’t hesitate. Just because we’re wearing suits and seem more like you . . . does not mean we are like you. We are not like you. They especially are not like you. The only way you get to the top of Visage is to be fucking ruthless, Reyna. Do you understand?”

“You’re . . . scaring me,” she whispered.

“Good.”
