My Review:

Pieces of Us is by far the most emotionally gripping story that I’ve read so far. A.L. Jackson has managed to deliver yet another well written story that will make you fell all sorts of emotions at once while keeping you at the edge of your seat until the very end.

In this particular story we get to meet Maxon (Mack) Chambers, a detective who works for the Charleston police force. He takes pride on his job and wanting to protect others. It is also because of how he grew up that made him the way he is today. Maxon loves his friends, Ian and Jace and will drop anything in order to help them. And that is exactly what he does when his friend, Ian asks him to stop by the story to pick up some diapers when he bumps into the girl he swore to protect but walked away from him thirteen years ago. She is even more beautiful than he remembered and knows that he played a huge part of letting her go but still hopes that she has moved on with her life. Yet there is a part of him that will always love her and although he has to let her go he just can’t. When Izzy invites him for dinner he is excited, but little did he know that his life was about to change forever the minute he comes face to face with a secret that she kept from him all those year.

Izzy met Maxon when she was just four years old and ever since then she always wanted to be his wife or at least that’s what she hoped to become. But even then they both were total opposites, her parents were well off while his weren’t and that played a role on how they grew up. She called him her dragon and he called her little bird and that all ended when he pushed her away. She promised to never return to Broadshire Rim, but that exactly what she did and with a very good reason to come back home. What she wasn’t expecting was to run into Maxon right away and she is afraid to feel for him again. She knows that she need to tell him the truth, but when their lives are suddenly in danger she’ll have to decide if giving him a second chance is worth it or not.

I absolutely loved this story! Maxon will capture your heart and never let go that’s for sure. From the moment he met Izzy he vowed to protect her and over years that’s what he did until she comes back to their home town that everything changes. He has been haunted by his past and as he learns to let go, he gets surprising news. Izzy never let the fact that she and Maxon came from two different worlds affect her in the slightest. She was his truest friend and confidant until her feelings started to grow. Her life changed forever and she had to go through a lot of things without Maxon and she hopes he can forgive her for what she did. As the two go through ups and downs, there are twists and turns that will threaten their relationship as they try to recover what they once had. This story had me laughing, crying and swooning for the characters as they get their happily-ever-after. It is a must read to those that love a well developed romance story with a twist. Highly recommend it! :)
