When her daughter suggests Darcy Madison attend her ex-husband’s wedding, Darcy enlists the help of her colleague, divorce attorney Victor Costello, to pose as her dashing young date. But when Victor proposes to Darcy at the reception, Darcy forgets they are pretending and says, “Yes!” Between her false engagement to Victor and her daughter’s suggestion to have a double wedding, Darcy falls even further in the fantasy of being a blushing midlife bride. The longer the masquerade continues, the more Darcy starts to wonder what is love and can it last forever in a world where divorce is the only language she knows?
{EXCERPT}
“Let me get dressed, and we’ll take a picture for Betty.” In the bedroom, Darcy grabbed her cosmetic case. With trembling hands, she dabbed her nose with blotting tissue before freshening her lipstick. She stepped back from the mirror to examine her work. Smiling, she checked her teeth for smudges. Perfect.
Within minutes, Victor stepped out of the bathroom looking more dapper than he had the night of the Gala. He wrapped his arm around Darcy’s waist and tugged her close. With his other arm outstretched, he took a selfie and sent it to Betty.
Moments later, Betty sent a text message.
*Wow! You guys make a cute couple!*
Too bad we’re just pretending, Darcy thought.
