Taken by the Phantom by Isabella King
Release Date: May 14th 2019
Series: The Phantom of the Academy #1
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance
I’ve never felt at home at Juilliard. My stagefright always makes me choke when I’m under the spotlight, to my classmates’ delight. But when I’m dragged into a new world, to a new school—where singing is more than a talent, it’s magic—I can’t hide my voice anymore. This new power is tempting, but terrifying forces swirl around the kingdom of Cantus. Missing girls, rivals at my new academy, Rebels, demons slaying people in the street—and it all leads back to him. The mysterious, powerful Phantom, who lurks beneath the opera school and demands he be my teacher—a demand which soon grows into something deeper, darker. But if I want to survive this place, or have any hope of going home, I may have no choice but to give in to him… and all he desires.
{EXCERPT}
A voice, near; fingers on my lips.
Krissy Davis, I ought to kill you…
A hand over my throat, no pressure, no give. Steady. Debating.
You’re going to die.
I gasp awake. For a moment I can’t orient myself. I can’t remember where I am or how I got here. Then it comes back to me in harsh slaps: the infirmary, Charlotte, the Headmistress, the missing girl—the Phantom!
I stumble out of bed, catching my reflection in the mirror. I’m disheveled, hair in frizzy waves, recital dress rumpled. It’s as I look at myself that I remember him, all of him: his shadow reflecting mine, his mask, white as bone, cold and mortifying; the emergence of his body from the glass. He touched me, pressed his hand to mine, his body to mine—when I fell he caught me.
I prod my body once all over. I’m not bruised or scratched or even red. When I look at my throat in the mirror, its smooth and unadulterated. He didn’t touch me. He didn’t hurt me. But…
I ought to kill you.
Did I dream it? His voice? His touch, tender, irreverent? The touch of a murderer?
I have to change. I have to get downstairs. I have to tell someone, anyone, about him. I strip my dress, and only when I’m in my bra and panties do I realize he could be looking at me. He didn’t touch me while I was unconscious, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a creep. After all, he came crawling out of a mirror like this is The Ring.
I set my face and stalk confidently to the mirror, yanking my recital dress over the glass. Maybe his powers are more X-Men than I think and he’ll have no issue at all looking right through the cloth.
But it gives me some peace of mind.
I pull on my uniform: blouse, waistcoat, skirt, white stockings, and red velvet flats. I stare at them for a long moment, cloak in hand. If I click my heels and think of home, will it work? I’m certainly no Dorothy, but I’m no Wicked Witch either.
Maybe it’s best not to take the chance.
I grab my phone out of habit and shove it into my cloak pocket, ducking out the door and racing down the steps.
AUTHOR BIO:
My short stories and articles have been traditionally published (under another name) but Amazon has given me the chance to venture into wildly different genres and my most recent titles have involved spanking and D/s relationships. My heroines are strong willed, intelligent women who battle against their need to submit to the dominant men in their lives. My stories are complex and filled with angst, turmoil and agonising twists of fate but a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ almost always have a happy ending.
Thanks for stopping by! :)
