Hit or Miss by Everly Ashton
Release Date: February 1st 2021
Series: Love in Apartment 3B #1
Genres: Romance, Contemporary
What’s one way to make a lasting impression on a man? Shoot him.
When I accidentally send a bullet flying through a handsome stranger I’m mortified. When I find out he’s a doctor who treats children with life-threatening heart problems? I’m determined to make it up to him.
Playing nursemaid to Dr. Oliver Kinkaid is easier said than done. At least while having to pretend I’m not attracted to him. He’s a decade older than me, supremely sexy and has his life together. What’s not to swoon over?
Especially since I’m scraping by as a teacher, sharing an apartment with two friends and an exciting Friday night means binge-watching Dateline episodes with a bag of potato chips. Not much to swoon over here.
Until I find a hidden letter in our century old apartment that predicts I’ll meet my soul mate and live happily ever after.
Things start to develop between Oliver and me. Our mutual attraction grows to combustible levels and I can’t help but wonder if the letter was right—is he my perfect match?
Then I find out Oliver’s secret and I want to put another bullet through him.
Hit or Miss is a lighthearted, heartwarming and steamy romantic comedy with a happy ending and a cast of hilarious characters that will have you laughing out loud until the last page. No cheating. Buy or borrow this book for free with Kindle Unlimited!
My Review:
At the beginning of the story we get to meet Jemma Rojas, a third grade teacher who’s love life is about to change, according to a mysterious letter she finds in her apartment. This letter predicts that she will soon find her soul mate and live happily ever after. But what completely changes her life happens to be when she accidentally shoots a handsome stranger at a gun range. Feeling guilty and at fault, she vows to make things right and take care of him until he gets better. Jemma finds Dr. Oliver Kinkaid fascinating and it melts her heart when she finds out that he helps diagnose and oversee the care of infants and children with heart-related issues. He is older, smart and the more time she spends with him the more she wonders if he might just be the one for her.
As a pediatric heart specialist, Dr. Oliver Kinkaid has a very busy schedule. It’s long hours at work that can get to him, so when his friend suggests for him to try the new gun range to take off some steam, Oliver does. Not knowing that the mysterious woman next to him was going to change his life forever. Now he finds himself at her care and he wouldn’t have it other way, Jemma is sweet and kind. She brings him a new light to his life and he is starting to fall in love with her. Yet, there are things that Jemma doesn’t know about him, things that could damage their future if he doesn’t come clean before it’s too late.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hit or Miss, the beginning was a bit slow, but it quickly picked up and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are engaging and full of chemistry. Oliver is kind and his love for clouds had me swooning! Jemma is sweet and helpful towards others. But she soon starts to question if she is good enough for Oliver, he is older than her and a lot more accomplished. Yet, she still has feelings for him and wants to be with him. Until she discovers Oliver’s secret and the completely change the course of their relationship. The appearances from their friends also made the story that much more enjoyable to read. There was laughter, steamy scenes, shocking twists and a sweet ending to keep you wanting for more. I would highly recommend checking out Hit or Miss, I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future. :)
**I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.**
My Rating:
Everly Ashton is a USA Today Bestselling Author who wanted to try something a little different under a new name. She loves brooding heroes, spunky heroines, and happily ever afters. You can usually find her with a Kindle in one hand and a cup of caffeine in the other. And because she’s using a pseudonym she can’t tell you much more than that. ;)
Thanks for stopping by! π
