The Enemy Trap by Maren Moore
Release Date: June 4th 2021
Genres: Romance, Contemporary, Sports
Hayes Davis is America’s sweetheart, the #1 hockey player in the country, and my fake fiancΓ©.
Simple, right? It would be, if my betrothed were anyone else.
But it turns out America’s sweetheart is arrogant, selfish, and a guy I have no intentions of letting break my heart again.
It was never supposed to happen.
But then one night changes everything.
Now, he’s not only my pretend fiancΓ© but my very real baby daddy.
How can two people who hate each other pull off the lie of a lifetime while figuring out how to raise a child together?
Everything between us was supposed to be fake, but I’m not pretending anymore.
My Review:
At the beginning of the story we get to meet Sophia St. James, who is celebrating her 30th birthday, unemployed and single. Having been through a recent break up, Sophia feels stuck and doesn’t know what to do. Then she sees a gossip magazine with yet another scandal involving her enemy, Hayes Davis. No matter how much she dislikes him, their best friends are married to each other and they will always be in the same circles. So bumping into him at their goddaughter’s birthday party shouldn’t have surprised her, but she can’t help to notice how insanely attractive he is no matter how much he annoys her.
What Sophia wasn’t expecting was to be stranded in the middle of the ocean with Hayes Davis. They both could have stayed away from each other, but being at close proximity to him only unleashed what they’ve always had for one another, an attraction so powerful that neither one of them was able to deny. Now they have to face the curveball that neither was expecting to get and learn to get along if they are going to be in each other’s lives for the foreseeable future.
Hayes Davis is not just a professional hockey player, but also Hollywood’s Most Eligible Bachelor whose looks and wealth can get him any woman he could possibly want. But he enjoys his bachelor life way to much to settle down, that often causes him to be wrapped up in scandals that he cannot have if he wants to continue with his professional career as a hockey player. Hayes is back home to be surrounded by his family and friends, yet he wasn’t expecting to find himself attracted to the same woman that has hated him for the last ten years. Sophia St. James is smart, sassy and beautiful. But when they find out that she is pregnant, he fears that his career is over and his agent suggests that they pretend to be engaged. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more he wants to make things work with her for good. Until his past comes back to ruin what he has with her and he has to find a way to make Sophia see that they are meant to be.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Enemy Trap, it was truly an entertaining read. I loved the banter between Hayes and Sophia, mixed with the attraction for one another makes for a truly explosive romance. We get to see them get to know each other more, especially Hayes, he shows his sweater side when he is with Sophia. She soon realizes that she might have judged him based on what she has already read in magazines and we also find out what truly happened to make her hate him so much. While the story is great with the main characters, their best friends also play a huge role in the book and made so much better. All in all, the story was such a great read and the ending will leave you swooning and rooting for the characters. I would highly recommend checking it out, I cannot wait to read more from the author in the future. :)
**I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.**
