Unscripted With Mila by Melanie Moreland
Release Date: June 1, 2023
Pages: 382
Genres: Romance, Contemporary
From NYT bestselling author Melanie Moreland comes a story of finding love, acceptance and happiness when you least expect it.
Mila Morrison prefers the silent company of her keyboard to that of people. She lives vicariously through the characters she creates.
Nicholas Scott only feels comfortable when he’s playing the role of someone else. He would rather be anyone but himself.
Both of them are hiding, too afraid to let anyone in.
Their attraction is unscripted, as is the bond that forms between them.
When the world around them threatens to tear them apart, are they strong enough to make the final scene?
Or will their affair end up on the cutting room floor?
It is time for the next generation of BAM
Series of interconnected standalones based on the Vested Interest world
My Review:
The heartfelt conclusion to Moreland’s beloved Vested Interest: ABC Corp Series is here. Unscripted With Mila is a page-turning romance about new beginnings that will pull at your heartstrings and never let go.
For thirty-two year old, Amelia “Mila” Morrison being an author comes with its own perks, one of them is being able to write from the comfort of her home. As someone who is shy and prefers to have her own space, Mila is hesitant when her agent tells her that she will have to go to LA pretty soon. As her latest book is in the works of becoming a movie, filming kicks off in LA before they film the rest in Canada. Although she has a very supportive family who are all happy for her success, Mila is afraid of what could happen if things get out of hand.
But there is someone she is eager to meet and that is her muse, Nicholas Scott, the actor who will be playing the lead in the movie. Having followed his career, Mila sees something in Nicholas that the press has failed to see and it’s that vulnerability that has inspired her latest book. Yet, he has a reputation that has her agent warning Mila to stay away from Nicholas. Little does she know that it would take bumping into him to change the course of her life forever. There is so much to Nicholas than what others see and the more she learns about him, the harder it becomes to stay away.
What Nicholas Scott loves about acting is that he can be anyone else with each role and not have to worry about being himself. He has worked really hard to not let anyone into his world while letting everyone else make assumptions about who he is. Hollywood won’t back him up if he shows his true self and he can’t let that happen. Having worked really hard to get to where he is in his career, Nicholas has no choice but to hide behind each role he plays. There is a lot of hype about the author who wrote the book he’ll be portraying in the movie and he can’t wait to meet him or her. But it would take bumping into a gorgeous stranger at their hotel and later on set to finally piece together who she really is. Yet, there is something about Mila that makes him what to protect her at all costs and when he finds out just how similar they are, he will do anything to make her his once and for all.
I absolutely loved reading Unscripted With Mila, it was emotional and romantic. Mila and Nick have instant chemistry that just keeps getting better throughout the book. There is a lot that we find out about them and just how resilient they’ve been on their own. It makes it that much more special when they’re able to lean on each other. Moreland did a great job writing about sensitive topics while telling a beautiful story about second chances and new beginnings. We get lots of cameos form characters that have been part of the series from the very start. The ending was truly special, for those that have been following the series since Bentley, it was nice to see just how the families have grown and how close everyone is. Although this story can be read as a standalone, it will have more impact if you read the rest of the series as well. It was an emotional goodbye to one of my favorite series and I cannot recommend it enough. You won’t regret it! :)
