A simple key-ring charm throws an empire into chaos.
Their 24-hour holiday romance began at the Statue of Liberty, the key-ring charm he gave her is a constant reminder.
Ten years later Adeline returns to New York to find, unexpectedly, re-kindled lust and love. Turmoil follows as his powerful mother barges into their lives.
A violent act causes tensions to explode at a high-profile fund-raiser, where love and marriages are threatened as secrets from long-ago have a very public climax.
My Review:
At the beginning of the story we get to meet Adeline Carey, an eighteen-year old girl from Australia who has been in New York city for the past couple of months. She has been staying with a family friend, Reggie, while she works for her at an art gallery. With the hopes of saving enough money, Adeline hasn’t seen a lot of the city and on her last day she decides to go the Statue of Liberty. That is when she unexpectedly meets a charming guy who introduces himself as Mitch Morris. He is undoubtedly the best looking guy she’s ever met and Adeline wants to get to know him better even though she knows that she’ll be leaving the next day. What starts with them exploring the statue to him gifting her a key-ring charm to remind her of the trip, everything changes for them after that. It would take ten years later to reunite in an expected way and rekindle old feelings that could potentially bring an empire into chaos.
Mitchell Morris has it all, the looks and wealth to get just about anything he could possibly want. At eighteen he knew what his future was going to be like, but he wasn’t expecting to meet her. Adeline Carey brought him a new light to his life and although they only spend a day together, he knew she was the one for him. With her back Australia and him in New York, he was able to focus on what mattered to him at the time, creating an empire of his own. Ten years would go by until he stumbled across her again back in New York and this time he will do anything in his power to make her his.
I loved the overall idea of this book, there seemed to be a lot of thought that went to it, but it could have been executed a lot better. The characters were great and with different backgrounds we do get to see different perspectives. Which leads me to the writing in this book, it felt all over the place and there were times when I couldn’t connect with Adeline. What I also didn’t like as much was how rushed it felt, both in their relationship as well as in some aspects of the book. I wish the author could have elaborated in some scenes, but it all ties nicely at the end. There are some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and that is what lead me to wanting to read it until the very end. All in all, the book was good and if you like a quick “instant love” type of book, then I would suggest giving it a try. I’m looking forward to reading more from the author in the future. :)
