Eric de Vries.
Looks like millions.
Worth billions.
A body like the David with a mind to match.

Unfortunately for this wayward heir, to keep his money, he needs a wife.
And of all the women in the world, he chooses me.
Too bad I've hated him for five years, since he took all my tears and tossed me away.
The guy slept his way through half of New England and discarded women like hotel toiletries.
Been there. Done that.

Still...what would you do for twenty million dollars?
Would you wear the dress?
Fake a smile for the man who broke your heart?
Or would you run far, far away?

Yeah, that's what I thought.
I'll see you at the church.

My Review:

Not having read other books by the author before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading The Hate Vow. Needless to say, I was impressed with the storyline and characters from beginning to end. Nicole French manages to deliver an addicting story about the glitz and glamour of New York as well as what it takes for a family to maintain its power in the Upper East Side.

At the beginning of the story we get to meet Eric de Vries, a thirty-year-old lawyer who has managed to co-found a successful law firm without the help of his family. It has been ten years since left New York for Boston and hasn’t seen his family ever since. This has giving him time to be independent and become his own person without being influenced by his family. After a tragic event, he vowed to never speak to them again until he gets the call that his grandmother’s health is failing and he is summed back home. With no other choice but to go, Eric faces Celeste de Vries the matriarch of one of the oldest families in Manhattan.

His family name goes way back to the New Amsterdam Shipping company that became one of the biggest in the world. With all that power, it became too much for Eric to bear when his father passed away in a sailing accident. This left Eric as the new heir to the shipping company and he was groomed by his grandmother for him to one day take what’s his. But looking at his grandmother, he remembers the good and bad times that he had at her care and he is ready to show her that she ca no longer control him. That is until she gives an ultimatum, marry within six months and resume his life as a de Vries or watch all the family fortune disappear, thus ending the de Vries’ power once and for all. Eric has never been the marrying type of guy, but if there is anyone out there that he wouldn’t mind getting married to would the one person that hates him the most: Jane Lee Lefferts.

Jane Lee Lefferts never imagined for her life to turn out the way it has since she lost her job. As a lawyer, she thought she had things figured out but everything happened so fast that she found herself without a place and a job at the same time. Now she is back at her mom’s apartment where she is ready to take her life back or at least try to be optimistic while applying to new jobs. She is getting a little make over when she bumps into someone she wasn’t expecting to see, Eric de Vries. Having met in college, Jane and Eric were inseparable. But she figured out right away that he was different than her, he wasn’t a typical college student but that didn’t stop them from being attracted to each other. They had an on and off relationship, until one day things changed and their relationship was never the same. She vowed to never fall for him again, but she never expected to see him reaching out to her again. She definitely wasn’t expecting him to offer her twenty million dollars in exchange for them to get married within six months. To Jane, this is the perfect chance to get the money that she needs to start over so she accepts. But the more time they spend together, the more she starts to realize that she might just be falling fro him all over again.

I absolutely loved reading this book! The glamour of New York never gets old and mixing the history of the family made the story that much more interesting. In the story, Jane has to find a way to fit in with Eric’s family and that didn’t always work out. She is outspoken and fierce. But having grown up with parents who wanted her to have a successful job, she pursues law as her career. Yet, it is her unique style and fashion sense that give her the edge that she needs with the family. On the other hand, Eric is successful at his career and wants nothing to do with the family name. He has worked so hard to achieve that, but he also loves his family and doesn’t want them to suffer the consequences if he decides to not marry. All in all, I would highly recommend checking out the book, it’s full of secrets, romance and steamy scenes to keep you wanting for more. But be warned there is a cliffhanger at the end, but it’s worth keeping up with the rest of the series. :)

The Kissing Plot by Nicole French

Release Date:  June 26th 2019
Series: Quicksilver #2
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Jane and Eric de Vries.
Often enemies. Sometimes lovers.
Husband and wife. Or are we?

I wore the dress. We said the vows.
And somehow it became more than just a stunt to collect his billions.
A promise bound by love, not hate.
Until he humiliated me in front of all of New York and disappeared.

Now my errant husband has returned, and it's like I never existed.
Except when he looks at me like he wants to rip my dress from my body.
Something's holding him back. And I won't rest until I discover its cause.

See, this wild heir is about to find out: karma's a fickle mistress.
My weapons? Batting eyelashes, high heels, and that red lipstick he can't resist.
I'll break down his mask, little by little. And then I'll make him pay for what he did.
I just need to keep my heart in check while I do it.

My Review:

Having read the first book (The Hate Vow), I couldn’t wait to read The Kissing Plot and it didn’t disappoint at all. Nicole French picks up right where she lefts off in the first book and we get to learn about what happened to Eric after he leaves at the end of the first book. In this particular story, French explores the relationship between Eric and Jane further as they overcome obstacles on the way. It’s evident that they both have a lot to work on, but as they discover new secrets they have to figure out if staying together is worth it in the end or not. The future is uncertain for them, but once they figure out that they can work together they are willing to face anything that comes their way. As they continue their journey, there are ups and downs that along the way ready to break them apart. What I liked about the story the most was how far Jane has come along in her journey. She is stronger than ever and she is just as fierce at the end of the story. I cannot wait to read the final installment in the Quicksilver trilogy, it’s going to be epic. :)
