Former Marine. Criminal prosecutor.
I was one of the good guys. Until I met her.

With beauty like a rose and a mind as sharp as thorns,
Nina Gardner went from dalliance to obsession in a single night.
I'd stop at nothing to find her again, to make her mine.

Then I find out:
She's the daughter of a New York dynasty.
Property of the scum of the earth.

And the subject of my next investigation is...her husband.
Which makes me the other man.

Well, I don't think I can live with that.
Because now, I don't think I can live without her.

My Review:

In The Scarlet Night we got a glimpsed of how Nina and Mathew met and in The Other Man we are taken on another wild ride that is the Upper East Side. French manages to deliver a story full of romance, lies, secrets and heartbreak.

It’s been six weeks since Matthew Zola, assistant prosecutor with the Brooklyn District Attorney, has seen or heard from Nina Astor. Their scarlet night together has changed him in so many ways and he can’t stop thinking about her. When his search for her leads him nowhere, he decides to focus on looking into Jane and Eric’s case (Quicksilver Trilogy). That’s when she shows up unexpectedly and his worlds turns upside down. Nina is non other than Eric’s cousin, which makes her a de Vries and heir to distinguished New York dynasty. But there is so much more to Nina that Matthew is still wrapping his head around, she is clearly hiding so much more than she is telling him. Yet, there is one thing he is positive about and that’s of his love for her and will not stop until he makes her his.

Nina Evelyn Astor de Vries Gardner was born into one of New York’s respected families. The De Vries Shipping company is known all other the world, yet she doesn’t end up being the heir of the family. But her life gets a lot more complicated when she ends up meeting Matthew Zola. He gave her a night she will never forget, but she has to go back to reality no matter how much she doesn’t want to. A loveless marriage has changed the course of her life and when Matthew shows up he gives her what she has been missing her entire life: love. A foreign concept for her, but one that Matthew seems to have a lot of. It’s when they meet again that her world begins to shift and she’ll have to decide if pursuing a relationship with him is worth it or not.

I loved the overall concept of the story, it was interesting to read it in mostly Matthew’s POV. The story was intriguing and steamy! We truly get to learn so much about Matthew and the relationship that he has with his family as well as those around him. He loves his sisters and grandparents who raised him. His grandfather was the one that taught him how to treat his lady and that’s exactly what he does with Nina (which I found incredibly romantic). But we also get to learn about his parents and how much he has in common with Nina. On the other hand, Nina is full of secrets yet she is extremely caring to those around her. It takes her the longest to truly see what’s in front of her when it comes to Matthew. Now although I found myself not connecting with the characters at the beginning, they quickly grew on me as the story picked up and it was hard to stop reading. French knows how to deliver suspenseful scenes and I was at the edge of my seat towards the end. The shocking twist at the end will definitely have you wanting for more. I cannot wait to read what happens next! :)

My Rating:

About The Author:

Nicole French is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance. She's also a hopeless romantic, Springsteen fanatic, and total bookworm. When not writing, she is hanging out with her family, playing soccer with the rest of the thirty-plus crowd in Seattle, or going on dates with her husband. In her spare time, she likes to go running or practice the piano, but never seems to do either one of these things as much as she should.
