🔖 REVIEW 🔖 The Accidental Countess by Emma Hart

The Accidental Countess by Emma Hart

Release Date: March 8th 2022
Pages: 370
Genres: Romance, Contemporary, Humor

An earl and an artist walk into a bar, and the barman says—never mind. They’re in a church, and they’re married now. Oops.

My name is Evangeline Astley, and the only thing you need to know about me is that I never imagined this was how my life would go.
I was supposed to devote all my time to painting gorgeous things to eventually open my own art gallery. Instead, I spent it all trying to sell my art to save my parents’ hotel.
Cue the Earl of Anglesey and his not-so-stunning idea.
Matthew Bennett needs an heir to the earldom, but for an heir, he needs a wife. And I’m the one the extremely eligible bachelor has chosen. Except I’m just as marriage-phobic as he is, so naturally, I refused—until he gives me an offer that I couldn’t.
If I agreed to marry him, provide an heir, and divorce amicably in due course, he would save The Fox and Hound hotel that I love so much.
That, ladies and gents, is how I became the Countess of Anglesey.
The one thing I didn’t count on, however?
Falling in love with my husband.

My Review:

Hart concludes The Aristocrat Diaries Series with The Accidental Countess, where an earl and an artist make an agreement that would ultimately change their lives forever. Filled sweet banter and laugh-out-loud moments, this romance will keep you reading until the very end.

For Evangeline Astley, there isn’t a single part of her that wants to get married. As an artist, she wants to someday be able to sell her own work. But instead, Eva is working at someone else’s art gallery in order to save her parents’ hotel. Until she meets Matthew Bennett, the Earl of Anglesey. It’s their instant connection that brings them together and the fact that neither of them want to be in a serious relationship. Yet, everything changes the minute Matthew asks Eva to marry him. He needs an heir to keep the family line going and for that he needs a wife to pretend to be in love with him.

At first, Eva can’t believe Matthew is asking her to do the very same things she doesn’t want to do and that’s to get married. There is nothing in it for her, until he makes her a deal that he’ll save her family’s hotel and she can have it once they get divorced in a few years. Eva doesn’t want to lose the one place she’s ever known so she accepts his offer. Little did she know how her live as the new countess in a place she’s never been to would change her life as well as her growing feelings for her husband.

As the Earl of Anglesey, Matthew Bennett is constantly under a lot of pressure to keep the earldom from dying out. He needs a legitimate male heir through marriage in order to keep the family line going. But choosing a wife is not easy, everyone has eyes on his wealth, title and place in society. If he has to get married, Matthew wants to do it with someone he trusts instead and that’s when Eva comes in. He very much enjoys spending time with her and he is willing to help her parents’ hotel if she gives him an heir. Yet, it’s after they get married that he starts to see just how perfect they are for each other. Eva understands him and he wants to do anything to make her happy. They weren’t supposed to fall in love with each other and he is afraid that she might not share the same feelings for him. Matthew is willing to prove to Eva that they can have a shot at a future together.

I’m a huge Emma Hart fan, she always delivers swoon worthy romances combined with her sense of humor that they’re hard to resist. We meet Eva and Matthew in previous books in the series and now they get to have their own chance at a HEA. They both know what they’re in for the minute they sign the contract that would bind them together as husband and wife. Eva knows that she needs to provide Matthew with an heir, but he doesn’t want to rush her into anything as she is getting used to her new life. As the new countess, Eva is still unsure about her future in Anglesey. Matthew is sweet to her, pays attention to her wants and she is touched by it. She has never been in love, but spending more time with him has her question her feelings for him. I loved their banter and their time together. We get to meet his own family and his grandmother is hilarious. I wish a few things could have been explained a little further, but the ending made up for it as it ended the series with on a sweet note. I would highly recommend checking out the book as well as the series. I cannot wait to read what Emma Hart comes up with next! :)
