My Review:
The story picks up right where it lefts off in Dark Reign, with Emerson tricking Daphne Morelli into trusting him. The minute he saw her, Emerson knew that he had to have her and that’s exactly what he does. Now Daphne is part of his collection, too valuable to be left out in the world and she couldn’t be more mad at him for keeping her prisoner in his own house. But no matter how much Daphne doesn’t want to paint for Emerson, she can’t go too long without painting. As the two start to spend more time together, Emerson starts to let Daphne into his world and she realizes that they might not be so different after all. As a Morelli, she doesn’t share what happens behind the scenes of her family. Yet, Emerson sees the painter that she is and not as a Morelli. Yet just as she is about to fully trust him, a turn of events threatens to change the course of their lives.
I enjoyed reading Sweet Mercy a lot more, we get to know the characters as they reveal their pasts and how that has made a huge impact on them. Emerson sees the world in a different way and it’s a way that only Daphne can really understand. She can sympathize with him and Emerson also becomes protective of her. There is a lot of chemistry and steamy scenes as well. We get a nice twist of events at the end that was bit sad, but I cannot wait to read the last book in the trilogy, Last Resort.
***I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own***
