🔖 REVIEW 🔖 Blackmail by Amelia Wilde

Blackmail by Amelia Wilde

Release Date: August 2nd 2022
Pages: 224
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Bristol Anderson will do anything to protect her younger siblings. Even if it means embezzling from the company where she’s a temp. No one will find out. And the wealthy owner of the investment firm will never notice.

Except Will LeBlanc doesn’t miss a thing.

He could call the police, but he has more interesting plans for her. In the copy room. On the conference table. Under his desk.

The coldhearted venture capitalist will make her pay back every last cent.

Review:

Wilde delivers an intriguing start to the first book in the Controlling Interest Trilogy with Blackmail. This sizzling read had me hooked from beginning to end.

At the beginning of the story we get to meet Will Leblanc, a venture capitalist who has worked really hard to make his private equity firm a success. So much so that he is in talks of merging with a large organization, The Hughes Financial Services, who have offered him even more wealth and an executive title as well. But while Will should be focusing on the merger, his focus now is on trying to keep a secretary from leaving the job. He has gotten the reputation of not being able to keep his secretaries with his temper and demands.

Until one day that changes as a beautiful woman walks in having been sent from the temp agency ready to make his job a lot easier. Bristol is efficient and does her job really well. Yet, there is something about her that keeps him drawn to her. Will knows better than to get emotionally attached to her, but when Bristol confides in him about her con artist father, he knows that he has to find a way to protect her. He is shocked to discover that Bristol has con him and he vows to make her pay, by making her his. Little by little, she starts to shatter the walls around him and it frightens him to know that she will see the monster in him and never want anything to do with him again.

Bristol Anderson has always been protective over her siblings as they moved from place to place growing up. It’s her jobs throughout the years that have been able to help them financially. But it’s not enough and that results in her dad “borrowing money” to help them move around. When a man comes to collect the money her dad owes, things turn from bad to worse when he threatens her siblings’ lives if he is not paid back soon. Bristol doesn’t know what to do, her new temp job is not going to cover everything. She needs to think of something fast and that’s when her dad asks her to do what he has always done in order to protect those she loves. Bristol must steal from same company that has given her the job while she figures out a way to pay them back as well. It’s only supposed to be temporary, but Will is not one to mess with and she knows that she has been caught. But Will isn’t interested in firing her or calling the police, he has a plan of his own. One that could change the course of their lives forever.

There is so much to unpack from this book, from the storyline to the characters. Their chemistry is what kept me reading and as we got to learn more of their background stories, the more hooked I was with the story. We have a tortured hero who has been through a traumatic past and he is afraid of getting emotionally attached to Bristol. Her story and wanting to protect her at all costs is what drives him to want to keep her for himself. On the other hand, Bristol loves her family and will do anything to protect him, including the very same thing that she hates about dad. They are able to lean on each other and start to trust in one another. Until a turn of events threatens a potential future together. The story does end with a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read what happens next. I would highly recommend checking it out as well as other works by the author as well. :)

🔖 REVIEW 🔖 Force of Nature by Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde

Force of Nature by Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde

Release Date: September 6, 2022
Pages: 340
Genres: Romance, Suspense, Contemporary

Carter Morelli survived a violent childhood and dangerous missions. After he emergency lands the small aircraft, he faces something even worse: having someone depend on him. Geologis June Porter wants to study rocks. She didn’t plan to be stranded on a deserted island.

They aren’t alone on the island. A man hides among the broad leaves. He’s almost feral, this man. But he provides them shelter and food.

There are secrets in his hidden cabin. Desire, too.

Carter doesn’t want to care about the bookish, beautiful June.
But he doesn’t like this strange man’s interest in her, either.
Simmering chemistry wars with the need for survival.

Will they be found before they give into temptation?

My Review:

In The Crash, the prequel to the Deserted Island Trilogy, Warren and Wilde did such a great job introducing the characters and setting up the scene of what’s to come in Force of Nature.

We were introduced to Carter Morelli, a Biology Professor, who has been given the assignment to fly a wildlife photographer to Mauritania. The Biology Department hopes of capturing their research and bring awareness to their rare species programs. But the minute he meets June Porter, Carter’s life is turned upside down. June is nothing like what he was expecting, she is too good something that he is not. She is also a distraction when he is specifically on another mission of his own. Yet, finding out that their plane was tampered with launches him on another mission, to be able to get out of the island alive to be able to find out who wanted them dead. There is danger and beauty all around him, but more importantly they are not alone on the island and he has to protect June at all costs before it’s too late.

For June Porter, landing on a tropical island wasn’t on the plans as Carter was supposed to take her to the research facility. There are too many mysteries around Carter that makes it harder for June to fully trust him. Him telling her that their plane was tampered with just adds to the secrets that he’s been keeping from her. June has had a difficult childhood, some underestimate her and she is determined to find out who Carter really is.

I throughly enjoyed reading Force of Nature, the plot line took me by surprise, but it also added a unique element to the story. I still got the mystery vibe and the chemistry between the characters if off the charts. We get to learn more about each separately and the ending was truly unexpected. I’m intrigued, I cannot wait to read the next book in the trilogy, would highly recommend checking it out!

🔖 REVIEW 🔖 The Crash by Skye Warren & Amelia Wilde

The Crash by Skye Warren & Amelia Wilde

Release Date: July 11th 2022
Pages: 61
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Suspense

Carter Morelli works alone, but his orders are clear. Pilot the small aircraft carrying the renowned geologist to a remote island. Except the plane malfunctions at a crucial moment.

June Porter wants to stay on solid land. She doesn’t want to fly, but it’s the only way to get to the dig site. Then her worst fears come true.

A heavy storm. A swift fall from the sky. And a heart stopping crash.

An emergency landing leaves them stranded.

A shadow moves through the trees. They aren’t alone in the jungle.

As the prequel to the Deserted Island Series, Wilde and Warren have teamed up to deliver a page-turning and sizzling start in The Crash. This glimpse to the suspenseful romance is a must-read!

For Carter Morelli being a Biology Professor at Oxford University has given him the freedom and flexibility to travel to remote places. He likes working alone, but a perk of the mission is that he gets to fly his very own plane. Carter is to escort the new wildlife photographer hired by the Biology Department to Mauritania for three weeks. All to bring awareness to the way their search programs protect rare species around the world. He assumes that June Porter is someone bookish with a particular style, but the minute she walks through the door Carter knows that he is doomed. June is beautiful, lively and sweet. It irritates him how vulnerable and exposed she is to the world. Finding out that she has a phobia of flying makes him want to protect her even more. His plans are quickly changing and going off course. Until the plane starts to shake, leaving him wondering if they’re going to make it out alive.

I cannot wait to see how the story unfolds, there is already a lot of secrecy, chemistry and suspenseful moments that had me at the edge of my seat. Carter is the James Bond superhero that we all need! I’m officially intrigued and I can’t wait to read Force of Nature. I would highly recommend checking out the prequel! :)

🌟 BOOK BLITZ 🌟 The Crash by Skye Warren & Amelia Wilde {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

{EXCERPT}

It’s a sunny day. Fluffy white clouds in a blue sky. No turbulence jostles us again. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to fly. It’s perfect, except for the sense of foreboding.

The engine stutters. It’s not precisely wrong, but it’s not precisely right.

“Carter? What’s happening?”

“Nothing.”

It’s not unprecedented. Engines make noise. They’re mechanical. It happens. I check the gauges. Nothing. It’s a small plane, but top-of-the-line. Well-maintained. I checked it over, tip to tail, when I arrived at Heathrow. Nothing was out of order then.

Nothing should be broken now.

Another stutter. This one’s bigger. Fuck.

The fuel gauge swings down toward empty, ticking by line after line.

My entire spine chills. That’s a malfunction. That’s a fucking problem. We’re dumping fuel on a delay, out over the ocean, almost like…

Someone planned for this to happen.

Fuck. Is that what my handler was calling about? How would she know something is wrong on the plane, thousands of miles away? I reach for the landing gear controls.

They try to engage. They fail. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

What’s happening is that the landing gear are stuck halfway open.

Worse, I don’t trust the navigation equipment.

The paper map in the panel above my head resists coming out, but I force it. Open it. Check my bearings one last time. Trust them one last time.

Angle the plane in a slightly different direction.

Off the flight plan, but toward the only land within range on the map.

What the hell is going on? I’ve logged over half a million nautical miles. This has never happened before. The plane drops. A few hundred feet before I can steady it. June gasps, clapping a hand over her mouth.

And then the engines cut out.

It’s silent in the sky. Wind skims over the fuselage. My heart pounds in my ears. I ignore all of it.

Because we’re going down.

There’s nothing to keep this plane in the air.

Not a prayer in the world could keep us flying without engines.

“We’re going to land.” It’s the truth and nothing but the truth. There are no other choices. It’s land the plane or die. “Brace yourself.”

“No,” she breathes.

It’s only a whisper of breath, but I hear it. I feel it, brushing over my skin. I’m tuned in to her. Into the plane. Adrenaline floods my veins, making me tuned into the fucking universe. And every single signal is telling me that we’re fucked.

A patch of green in the ocean comes into view. It looks impossibly small. Too small to land on, much less reach, but as we hurtle forward, it gets larger. Becomes an island. The island I saw on the map.

That’s it.

Our only chance at survival.
