🔖 REVIEW BLITZ 🔖 The Hustler by Gina Azzi

The Hustler by Gina Azzi

Release Date: January 6th 2022
Genres: Romance, Contemporary, Sports

Theodore Edward Sims was supposed to be my hot summer hook-up, a stranger I slept with in Hawaii. Now, he's my stepbrother's new hockey teammate.

When we met, Theo was a sexy surfer in Maui, riding waves by day and rocking my world at night. After being played for a fool by my ex-fiancé, Theo proved to be a source of instant gratification.

He was refreshingly honest, engaging, and incredibly charming. Theo built me up when it felt like my world was crumbling down.

Turns out, he's just like my ex. A liar.

To avoid the gossip of my failed engagement, I hightail it to Boston, where I'm forced to cross paths with a new version of Theo, aka Eddie Sims, Boston Hawks right wing. Here, he isn't the well-connected, alluring surfer but a determined, angry hockey hunk with something to prove. Especially to me.

Except I've written him off. Once a liar, always a liar.

But Theo isn't backing down. Instead, he's hustling for my forgiveness. If I give him another chance, will he live up to his apologies? Or am I just lying to myself?

My Review:

Gina Azzi delivers a redeeming and heartfelt sports romance in The Hustler, the eight book in the Boston Hawks Hockey Series. This emotional story is about second chance at love and new beginnings that will leave you rooting for the characters until the very end.

For twenty-four year old, Sofia Carpenter, making the big move to Maui was supposed to be the start of the rest of her life. But soon her engagement ends after her fiancé finds out more about her past. On top of that working as an event planner for the Servinos and Lely Prive Resort also ends, but not before she delivers on her last event. A high profile wedding that she was personally asked to oversee, but little did she know that it would ultimately end up changing her life forever. Then she sees a gorgeous stranger surfing, but never imagined herself meeting him in person. Until Sofia finds out that he is the groom’s brother and it’s his ability to listen without judgment is what draws her to him even more. Their one night together didn’t end the way they had planned as she finds out who he really is and vows to not put her heart as stake again. It would take months later for them to bump into each other again and for Theo to want to fight for what they had in Maui.

As a hockey player for the Boston Hawks, Theodore Edward Lawrence “Eddie Sims,” is used to attracting all kinds of attention. But for the last season, he has been struggling to keep his reputation intact. So his older brother’s wedding in Maui comes at the right time as it gives him an opportunity to get away from the spotlight. Yet, nothing could have prepared him when he sees Sofia for the first time. He is attracted to her right away, but there is something underneath the brave face that she puts when he meets her that calls to him. Her vulnerability and openness is refreshing to him and Theo doesn’t want to let her go. Sofia is not like anyone he’s ever met and holding onto her for just a little longer is what he wants, until she finds out the truth that he kept from her. Finding out that she is going to be closer to him than he thought is what makes Theo want to fight for her even more.

I absolutely loved reading The Hustler! We have two characters who have been given a second chance and it’s when they find each other that their relationship is truly explosive. Sofia has been through so much growing up and it’s though her experiences that she wants be better as well as be able to help those around her. On the other hand, Theo’s upbringing left him question people’s motives when it came to his family. He comes a long way when he meets Sofia. She gives him a reason to want to do better and learn to trust again. But just when you know where the story is going there is an unexpected plot twist that I didn't see coming at the end. All in all, this was such an emotional story filled with hope and a sweet ending to keep you wanting for more. I would highly recommend checking it out! :)

Being traded after fighting with your coach on air isn’t exactly a good look.

But everything changed when I went to pick up my niece and came face-to-face with my very pregnant one-night stand from six months ago.

Jillian

Two pink lines changed all my plans.
So did the guy I had a one-night stand with, a man who made me laugh and smile, a guy who I called to share my unexpected news with, only to find out his number was no longer in service.
Once more letdown by the opposite sex, I figured I was doing this on my own.
Then one day, I was staring into the eyes of the man I hated, the father of my baby.

My Review:

Only One Mistake is the sixth book in the Only One Series, where an unexpected encounter between two complete strangers brings them the ultimate gift that they didn’t see coming. Madison delivers a sweet sports romance filled so many swoon worthy and funny moments to keep you wanting for more.

At the beginning of the story we are introduced to Michael Horton, a hockey player who after an altercation with his coach in the middle of a game has been traded to a different team. Now word has gotten out that he has been officially traded of to the Dallas Oilers, which means a new team and a new home for him. But what Micheal hates the most is having his name being dragged through the mud, knowing that his family have so much history in the hockey world. The pressure is on to start fresh and be able to give it his all. Little did he know that he would end meeting a beautiful woman on his first day in Dallas that would ultimately change the course of his life forever. He hopes to see her again after their one-night stand, but it would take five months to see each other again and this time he isn’t letting her go at all.

For kindergarten teacher, Jillian Williams, going on a blind date is about the last thing she has left to try in order to put herself out there in the dating world. With no idea who her mystery date is going to be she heads of to the restaurant they were supposed to meet. Only to discover that the only guy who happens to be sitting by himself is not her date and she is mortified. She has been stood up and the handsome stranger is nothing but to nice to her from the start. It’s evident that they are attracted towards each other and after a few more drinks that a line is cross and their destiny is set. Getting pregnant should have been a joyous occasion had the father of her baby had been there for her, but it would take many months later for them to meet again. Jillian is not sure how she feels when Micheal suddenly wants to be involved with the baby and she thinks that he isn’t going to want her as well. Yet, things start to change when she finds out who he really is and what it means to be in a relationship with a famous hockey player.

I really loved their dynamic as a couple, not only is it relatable but also entertaining and swoon worthy! We have Micheal trying to find his footing in a new state and with a new team. On the other hand, it has been almost a year since Jillian broke up with her ex and with her sister’s encouragement, she is able to put herself out there and try something new. Jillian’s relationship with her sister Julia is hilarious. So is Michael’s relationship with his sister, Alex. From the siblings to the rest of the family, they all bring something to the story that just kept getting better. The ending is very much family oriented and sweet. I cannot wait to read what happens next in the series, I would highly recommend it if you love a good sports romance with a surprise pregnancy added to the mix! :)

The Commander by Melanie Moreland

Men of Hidden Justice
Because love can bleed into the darkest heart

My instincts had always served me well.
Listening to my gut, the warning voice in my head that told me when to walk away.
I never failed to heed the signs.
Until the day she walked into my office.
I knew she would be trouble, but I ignored the alarm bells.
And then it was too late, and I fell. Hard.
A lie tore us apart, and I thought I’d lost her forever.

Dating the Duke by Emma Hart

A duke and a writer walk into a bar, and the barman says—never mind. They’re in the library, and they’re not wearing any clothes. Oops.

My name is Adelaide Astley, and if there was anything remotely exciting about me to tell you, I would.
Sure, my uncle is the Duke of Leicester, and my mother bucked family tradition to marry “below” her and open a hotel, but I’m nothing but an aspiring author with a Tudor era obsession.
Oh, and I’m spending the summer tutoring the daughter of the current Duke of Worcester—who happens to be a regular in my highly inappropriate midnight dreams.
Thirty-year-old Alexander Winthrop-Bentley is so not my type, but hours of chess games and arguments over Tudor dynasties mean we’re thrown together more often than we should be. And when he shares with me that he needs a date for a charitable event, my mouth betrays me by offering myself up for the evening.
How I find myself naked in the library is another matter entirely. Ahem.
When the society papers declare us an item, neither of us have the heart to tell our families the truth. Only my twin sister and best friend know the truth, but they both agree we need to keep up the charade, even if only for the summer.
But when the end of August comes and my return home beckons, I have to ask myself a question.

Is it only his daughter who’s stolen my heart, or has Alexander done the very same thing?

A Wild Card Kiss by Lauren Blakely

A sexy standalone romance between a single dad athlete and the woman who got away!

Things that suck on my wedding day -- walking in on my groom kissing another woman twenty minutes before the ceremony.

Things that suck worse? The woman he’s kissing is my mom.

I head straight for the bowling alley bar down the street and ask for a double. And in walks a deliciously charming local football hero -- Harlan Taylor.

Yes, I’ll take another drink in the form of a one-night stand with this hunk of a man. In the morning, he asks if I want to get together again. More rebound nookie? Yes please!

But then I learn his football team just hired my yoga studio to teach downward facing dog to their star player, making my O-delivering hottie officially off limits.

Trouble is, the more time I spend working with the sexy single dad who dotes on his daughter, the more I’m feeling all the things far too soon.

There’s no way this can end well, but tell that to my runaway heart…

A Wild Card Kiss is a sexy, flirty sports romance featuring a charming, pie-baking, single dad who's never forgotten the red-hot kiss he planted on the feisty, sassy blonde one night years ago and a jilted bride heroine determined to move on from heartbreak. This story contains sexy times that can cure getting-left-at-the-altar blues, and heart-tugging swoony romance that’ll melt the most jaded hearts.

8.

Cinder & Glass by Melissa de la Cruz

Blockbuster author Melissa de la Cruz’s YA retelling of Cinderella, set in 17th Century Versailles.

For this princess, winning the crown is no fairytale.

1682. The king sends out an invitation to all the maidens in France: their presence is requested at a number of balls and events that will be held in honor of the dashing Prince Louis, who must choose a bride.

Cendrillon de Louvois has more grace, beauty, and charm than anyone else in France. While she was once the darling child of the king's favorite adviser, her father's death has turned her into the servant of her stepmother and cruel stepsisters--and at her own chateau, too!

Cendrillon--now called Cinder--manages to evade her stepmother and attend the ball, where she catches the eye of the handsome Prince Louis and his younger brother Auguste.

Even though Cendrillon has an immediate aversion to Louis, and a connection with Auguste, the only way to escape her stepmother is to compete with the other women at court for the Prince's hand.

Soon, as Cendrillon glows closer to Auguste and dislikes the prince more and more, she will have to decide if she can bear losing the boy she loves in order to leave a life she hates.

Melissa de la Cruz takes a lush, romantic hand to this retold fairy tale classic.
