Princess Ballot by Jaymin Eve and Tate James
Release Date: December 26th 2019
Series: Royals of Arbon Academy #1
Genres: Dark College Romance
You have been chosen.
Those four words change Violet Spencer’s whole life, when against staggering odds, she's selected in the "princess ballot."
Arbon Academy is affectionately known as the school for Royals. Only the rich, powerful, or heir to a throne gain entry ... except for the one scholarship student accepted every five years. It's a worldwide lottery, and one that Violet entered without giving it any serious thought.
But the media got it wrong and Arbon Academy is much more than a simple college for future leaders.
It’s a dark world of politics, intrigue, and dangerous guys who will stop at nothing to get their own way. Despite her best efforts at remaining off the radar, Violet finds herself a pawn between two of the most powerful monarchies in the world.
Prince Rafe of the Switzerlands and Prince Alex of the Australasias are bitter enemies both on the soccer field and in the political arena. Monarchies rule the world now, and every waking breath is a competition for the princes.
Control the ball.
Control the world.
Control Violet.
Whether it's through love or hate, someone will ultimately win.
*This is book one in a dark college romance. This is not a RH or traditional love triangle story, but it does include a-hole princes, nasty princesses, and one chick who will take none of their sh!t, all the while doing her best to make it out alive. HEA guaranteed. Eventually. 17+.

My Review:
Not having read any other works by the authors before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading the Princess Ballot. But it’s the eye-catching cover and the intriguing synopsis that had me wanting to read the book right away. Unfortunately, the idea was great but the overall execution fell flat for me.
At the beginning of the story we are introduced to eighteen-year-old Violet Rose, an orphan who has been currently living in Mission State Home, an orphanage. She cannot wait to get out and start her new life. But quickly gets told that she has been randomly selected from a ballot of over fifteen million displaced children to attend the prestigious Arbon Academy (university). It’s an opportunity of a lifetime, offered once every five years. Essentially she is going to be a scholarship student attending the university. Violet is completely shocked and recalls how everyone refers to the ballot as the “Princess Ballot.” Most if not all of the winners have gone to become royals themselves.
Aside from being the most exclusive and prestigious, the location to the academy is a closely held secret. With no other choice, Violet gives in and she is taken to the school right away. But just when her life has changed forever, her arrival to the school is met with unwanted attention. Quickly realizing that she is alone and should be kept to herself if she wants to survive the next four years. What she hopes for the most is to not run into any royals or cause any trouble. That soon changes after she meets, Prince Alex of the Australasias who can’t seem to stay away from her. Their encounter is quick and she soon finds herself liking his personality. While forming a strong bond with a princess, she becomes a prince’s nemesis and Violet has to learn who her real friends are. There are closely guarded secrets in the academy that she wasn’t expecting to be a part of, but she soon finds herself in the middle of two of the most powerful monarchies in the world. They will stop at nothing to get what they want even if it means breaking her heart in the process.
I absolutely loved the synopsis of the book, what made the book fell flat for me was the amount of ideas in the book and how they were executed. The idea of this dystopian world was intriguing, and not very well explained in the book at the beginning. It took a while for me to caught up on the fact that it wasn’t set in a modern world. Towards the middle of the book the story started to get interesting and the love interest had me hooked! There were so many moments that I just couldn’t stop reading. That changed towards the end, when Violet finds out about this secret club all the royal heirs go to and she wants to take part in. It all happens very fast and it left me very confused. Is she some type of secret assassin or fighter? That is why I had to give the book a low rating, I wish the authors could have explained that portion of the story a bit further. The end is what truly saved the book, it was interesting and it makes me want to keep reading just to see who Violet is going to end up with. All in all, the story needed more background information but it was still good enough to keep me intrigued.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**

My Rating: 3.5/5
She is a lover of books, red wine, cats and coffee and is most definitely not a morning person. She is a bit too sarcastic and swears too much for polite society and definitely tells too many dirty jokes.
Thanks for stopping by! 📖
