It was always going to end in heartbreak.
You can't pretend-marry the man you secretly love and escape unscathed.
Ford has never hesitated to ask for my help before, but this is the farthest he's asked me to go. Not that I ever say no to him.
Even when I know I should.
Sleeping with my husband is the best worst idea possible.
It's everything I dreamed it would be.
But everything to me is nothing to him.
And he's not the only one I've made promises to.
My Review:
Ford Malone has always been there for Emzee Zoric, ever since she was bullied at school. It was in that moment that she started to see him as her savior and the two became inseparable ever since. So when he asked her to be his wife for a year in order to get his mom off his back for not being with someone of her choosing, Emzee agreed to help. It’s now their wedding day and things feel extremely awkward between them. What should have been the best day of her life, it doesn’t feel that way for Emzee. She is constantly reminded of how their relationship has a time frame and she doesn’t know if Ford has any feelings for her. Emzee will always have his back, but she can’t help but wonder how Ford is going to react when he finds out about the deal she made with his parents. As the two start their new life together, they are seeing each other in a new light. They are now married and they have to figure out how to comprise with each other. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more she realizes just how hard is going to be to let Ford go after their year is over.
Ever since Ford asked Emzee if she loved him, it was hard to find out that she didn’t. It was hard for him to understand at the beginning, because they’ve always had that connection to fall back on. Now they are married and their dynamic feels different and he is set on doing anything possible to make her see that he wants to give their marriage a real chance. But when his ex comes into the picture, their relationship is put on the line and he’ll have to do everything in his power to convince Emzee that he truly loves her before it’s too late.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Act, it felt a lot emotional and it kept me at the edge of my seat until the very end. The book mainly focuses on their marriage, there isn’t a lot on the mafia and how it’s going to affect her family. I’m definitely intrigued to see how the third book handles all of that, especially after the shocking ending to the book. It’s clear from the start that the characters have chemistry and now that they are married, they are able to explore that further without worrying about their friendship. All in all, it was truly an enjoyable read and I cannot wait to read the last book in the trilogy. Would highly recommend checking out the books, the just keep getting better!
