πŸ”– REVIEW πŸ”– We Were Once by S.L. Scott

We Were Once by S.L. Scott

Release Date: May 28th 2020
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

New York Times bestselling author, S.L. Scott, crafts her signature heartfelt style into a brand new emotional, second chance, standalone romance.

We were never supposed to fall in love.

I have three goals: graduate from an Ivy League university, get into medical school, and follow in my father’s well-established footsteps. Everything was going exactly as planned until the local bad boy was delivered to my doorstep. Literally.

From the moment we meet, my old life becomes unrecognizable, but I have no regrets. I’m utterly captivated by him. His smirk. His heart. His sharp wit. He pushes me to live, to be wild, to pursue the dream I’ve always hidden inside.

To the rest of the world, we make no sense.

Me, the girl from the gilded New England coast.

Joshua, from the small city of New Haven.

To us, we’re destiny.

Together, we had it all. Desperately. Madly. In love.

Until we didn’t.

One tragic night changed everything.

My Review:

S.L. Scott manages to deliver a heartfelt second chance romance in We Were Once. It’s truly a story that will grip you and never let go.

For Chloe Fox simply being average is not enough and she has big shoes to fill. Her goals are to graduate Yale, get into medical school and follow in her dad’s footsteps. But even though her live has been decided for her since she was born, becoming a neurosurgeon is not what she wants and she is constant struggle to make her dad happy. It’s her mom that brings her a new perspective when Chloe needs it by telling her that striving for happiness is better than perfection. Something that Chloe would later recall the minute a knock on her door changes her life forever. Meeting Joshua Evan was not in her plan, but he makes her feel alive and full of possibilities. On the outside they are Yale students, about to graduate the Ivy League School. Yet, they come from two different worlds altogether. She is old money, while he isn’t. To Chloe, Joshua represents the freedom she so desperately needs and the more she gets to know him, the more she falls for him. Leaving her to wonder if she can truly have it all with him or if it’s just an illusion ready to bring her back to reality.

Joshua Evans has worked really hard his whole life and attending Yale should have given him the boost that he needed to start a successful career. Yet, he knows that he will never belong with the privileged crowed, but Chloe is different. He loves her sense of humor and her drive for success. But there are obstacles that they must face in order to be together and he’ll have to convince her that she is it for him before it’s too late.

I’m love with this story! Not having read any other works by S.L. Scott before, I didn’t know what to expect. Needless to say, the story had me hooked from beginning to end. The chemistry and passion between the characters was electric. Their relationship was totally swoon worthy and I did not see the twists in the story at all. Is it told in dual POV, which made the story that much better. As we got to see their point of views individually. The secondary characters were terrific, it was nice to see the main characters interact with them so well. There were some details that I wish the author could have explained a little bit more, but the ending was perfect. The story comes full circle and I highly recommend it. You will not regret it. I cannot wait to read any other works by the author in the future. :)

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**

My Rating: 4.5/5

Meet S.L. Scott:

New York Times and USA Bestselling Author, S. L. Scott, was always interested in the arts. She grew up painting, writing poetry and short stories, and wiling her days away lost in a good book and the movies.

With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald. She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the worlds those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones. This dynamic of leaving the reader invested in the words, inspired Scott to start writing with emotion while interjecting an underlying passion into her own stories.

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She's obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. She dreams of seeing one of her own books made into a movie one day as well as returning to Europe. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she's a pro.
